Hi!

What is this and what might be preventing me from crossing it when i could earlier?

Thanks!

It is a wormhole and you should be able to cross it if you researched the casimir effect. In this case, your colony is cut off from the rest of your empire due to the enemy player's control zone. Might be you are not at war with him or have an open border, so you can't cross.

So having open borders or peacefully coexisting with someone can result in them cutting of your travel routes by just by sharing a border with you? I could understand if it would cut you off if you were on a hostile standing, but sharing a border with someone you are at peace with negatively impacting your ability to travel around your own empire doesn't make a lot of sense.

Think of Gibraltar and the spanish airspace embargo of this british piece of land. http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_26585.shtml

@Nosferatiel: I'm not clear even after that Gibraltar example why this is called an "open border" if it denies one travel into his own territories. That sounds more like a "closed border" An own-border access embargo like you mentioned is a hostile act, not a routine peaceful thing and the example of Gibraltar represents a state of tension that has existed for many years between Spain and the UK. Under what conditions or diplomatic state would the game allow access to one's own territory across another player's borders, then, if not under open borders?

Specifically I said

If you have either war or an open border, there should be no reason you cannot cross. The example was meant for the case you haven't got either.
