Hello,

I have played 2 games so far. One in "newbie" mode and one in "easy" mode.

I see that there are at least 10 techs about trading resources but i never managed to trade.

I have open trade routes everywhere and I have deals with other factions but I never see trade routes used for anything.

What about it?

Thanks.

Trade routes are created automatically when you have peace treaty with someone.

Should probably have some type of control over it though, IMHO. At least a diplomacy option on what to trade and when...

There's a difference between trading resources (or techs, or systems) in the diplomacy screen (which you have full control over)

and trading via the routes showing in your system view (which you can only research and set up but need time to start up).

The last ones don't really trade anything ingame, as far as I understand it.

It's just tiny invisible tradeships flying through the galaxy somehow earning the both of you money.

I can't imagine how you would like to have more control over that?

Most of your systems start with a max of 0 possible trade routes available to them, I think the capital is the only exception to this, with 2 routes possible. When you are at peace with another empire the game will automatically set up these trade routes to generate Dust and Science for your empire. To gain more total trade routes per system you need to produce system improvements that increase the trade route cap.

Heroes are also useful for trade routes. They can increase the max number of trade routes on a system as well as increase the value of trade in a system, either by a set percentage or proportional to their wit. This is very powerful when you have higher lvl heroes as the Wit multiplier really moves things along, to the point that you can have single routes generating 50-100 Dust and you could have 5+ of such routes on a single system.

Hopefully this will get some kind of mention in a tutorial when the game goes live, it's not really explained at all that I noticed.

Yeah I found it quite odd, kept thinking that there was something I wasn't doing to get my guys trading

I think the question was answered. One more thing to add, if you want to trade strategic resources you'll have to research Relativistic Markets (Diplomacy & Trading tech tree). Thread closed/
