I'm still new to endless space, but I figured that the star systems with a colored circle are considered as your territory, and since you are not in peace (and have open your borders with them), or at war with the other factions, no ship can go through this system.

The freshly conquered systems make some time to be considered as your "land".

On the other side, I haven't seen such a radius before... Maybe a bug?

You're right, they're an influence area, and symbolise that a system is a full colony and not just an outpost.

A system becomes a full colony after 30 turns of being colonised.

In your photo:

The large green radius is (guessing) your colony and its borders. Although in my playing, borders dont really do anything but cause war with whoevers borders it touches

Orange circles around hath and janus- the enemy's borders, surrounded by your influence.

Checkered blueish circle around janus: shows the system is under blockade (i think) and all attached travel lines have little locks on them showing...theyre locked. So trade cannot reach that system.

The borders generated by colonies alone are quite small. To have large, tangible borders for your empire you need to research and then construct Camouflage Radiators in your systems that have become full colonies.

Sounds like you got it to me. They prevent movement without war as well as (I believe) affect distance from empire.

So, if I understand correct, Borders block any races that are not at war and not at peace with you?

And also if they touch an other border, that race gets smiley: mad. ^^

It is indeed the largest border I've seen in all the games that I've played

Correct. If you have a "Cold War" status with your neighbors, borders prevent their ships to go through your territory. When borders touch each other, there will be borders conflicts! smiley: smile
