Shield Icons on wormholes? Help

I was wondering, I control a system that has 5 wormholes linked to different systems, and I have a pink neighbor in which we are friends. He has a fleet stationed on that planet and it has pink shields on all of the 5 wormhole paths. I'm not quite sure what they mean. Can anyone help?

it means he's guarding the planet he's orbiting.

The button for this is called "intercept", the globe and shield icon. If you have a fleet on intercept in a system, it prevents any enemies (cold war or "real" war) from leaving the system.
