See the small red blobs? That's my influence area. Compared to the influence area of the AI that's pretty much nothing. Can you tell me how they do that? I think I don't have to mention I got steamrolled after declaring a war to green. I was just so behind I can't even tell you.



So is the influence area some kind of measurement on how good my empire is doing?

There are certain techs in the west tree improving your influence area. The influence area counts into your domination vitory score. Your overall score is therefor somewhat dependant on that by a portion. But in this case I would say they were ahead in tech and had more FIDS.
