Basic Guide For The Faction Editor - For ES master version 1.0.30

Step 1: Opening the editor

-The editor is not accessible via the main menu, you need to start a NEW GAME.

-In the game setup screen, click your faction's portrait to change faction.

-In the next screen, Click "add".

Now that step 1 is completed, we can give birth to a new faction.

Step 2: Understanding the editor

Click here for a view of the editor.

First things to do

-Give your faction a name; Click inside the text-box and type it out.

-Define the author of the faction; Same way - Click and type.

-Type your factions description; this can go from the complete history to some basic words.

-Choose your factions affinity; Click and a drop-down menu will appear.

What do the different affinities do?

Basically the affinities you can chose are the very basics of each factions, their unique abilities.

-United Empire Affinity: Industry bonus (0%-60%) for certain tax rates (25%-100%) and 10 additional ship xp points on construction.

-Sheredyn Affinity: Same as United Empire, but with the Emperor's Guard skin. (Not available for all game versions)

-Cravers Affinity: The concept of "Locust" points will be added to your custom faction.

-Amoeba Affinity: The whole galaxy-map is visible at the start of the game.

-Sophon Affinity: -50% Cost of support modules and a science bonus (50%-0%) will be given for certain tax rates (0%-50%).

-Pilgrims Affinity: The "Fleet Errant" ability will be added.

-Horatio Affinity: The cloning ability will be added and there will be a 50% recovery bonus on heroes.

-Sower Affinity: -50% food on systems and 40% of industry counts as food.

-Hissho Affinity: +5% weapons damage for 15 turns after a victorious battle and +20% FIDS for 15 turns after a successful invasion.

Step 3: Traits

Now comes the most important part, the traits of your faction.

there are 2 types of traits; positive ones and negative ones.

Positive traits add qualities to your faction while negative traits describe their flaws.

Positive traits add points to the factions counter, while negative remove points.

Some traits come in levels, the 1st level of trait is less strong then a 3rd or 2nd level but adds less points.

The 2nd level of a requires the first level, same goes for the 3rd level.

Points

While adding your traits don't overdo it, because there is a point limit: 65/60

Balance your good and bad traits to reach this number.

Trait Categories

There are different kinds of traits, all sorted on the left side of your screen.

-Some traits in the same category can block each other, for example in the category "Defense" the "Deep Roots" trait blocks the "Rebellion" trait.

So you can only chose of of them, but never have them both.

-Some Traits from the "Technology" category require other ones, for example "Sustainability" requires "Arid Epigenetics".

-You can only have 1 trait from the "Anomaly" category.

The best way to get a feeling of the editor is to play around a bit,

don't add to many traits, balance them out.

Sure many claim its the best way to just add a huge amount of good and bad traits,

but I'm not so sure about that: A good balance faction can definitely win the game.

Thats that..

I hope this Guide is useful to players who are a bit overwhelmed by the Editor.
