Do galactic/empire events have a time limit?

I'm at the endgame and recently had the "corruption" event occur. It imposes an across-the-board 20% penalty on FIDS and morale in every system. At this point it doesn't much affect my dominant position, but if I got this at turn 5, I'm thinking I would just restart or load a save. I had another global even penaly occur in the same game about halfway (turn 50-70 or so), a 20% penalty to all trade income ("desecrated a temple"), which I noticed had not gone away on turn 130+.

So, a couple of questions: Do galactic/empire events ever go away? And, are there specific triggers that can be avoided?

thanks

To go along with this, do all of the events affect your whole empire? A lot of them say "the system" but it never specifies what the system is.

.. I found out that some events affect all empires, and some affect only yours - the ones I mentioned above supposedly happen to all empires. However, my original question still stands - are these events permanent? Are trade delegations still upset over a temple accident 100 years later?

No they don't last forever, and do fade away slowly, turn by turn. However I have no idea how long they take to go but I do know that given enough turns, they do go.

the new patch now displays how long the effects last. but the new patch also broke my game by not letting me upgrade ships anymore lol.
