A request to provide detailed understanding of combat: especially weapons vs defense

I would love if it we could get the hard math of how weapons vs defenses actually work, as well as crits, "chip" damage, how are ship targets chosen, etc

We all know the basics and from a lot of combats we have gleaned some trends. But ultimately many discussions would be a lot smoother if we knew exactly how these systems work.

I really appreciate the work Ketobor is doing, but he's having to do it through looking up xml data in the backend and piecing together info.

If the combat math is known by one of the designers, getting that info first hand would be very useful and prevent guesswork.
