Hello I had a quick question. Do I want to colonize as many planets and systems as possible? Like I claimed 3 planets in 3 different suns or systems idk what you call em but I feel like I should be colonizing more than I am. I have access to all 5 planets in my starting system but the 2 I haven't colonized are dessert and barren and barely any potential for pop...should I still colonize them and make the best out of it? I really appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you.

Colonizing a new system generally takes priority over colonizing another planet in the same system.

It entirely depends on....

...The nearby systems' planets

...The planets in (already owned) system

...Population size and growth

...Luxury resources

...Playstyle

Try go for the good planets first (good food (pop growth), good production )... Anomalies, Luxuries & strategic resources alter a planet worth ...

Generally one per system at first (best food planet should be first so you can grow it to max pop - fill a planet to max and then cosider colonizing another one in the same system ) Planets below Class I have penalty to approval so again don't get too many planet in the same systems too early ...

Very early game - 1 planet per system - grow it to max pop - then have it export population to other non-colonized systems ...

Also the links in my signature might be helpful ...

I usually colonize or conquer my entire starting constellation in the early game, if the constelation has up to 4~7 systems. If it bigger, I research all approval improvements up to colonial rights to quickly colonize the entirety of the starting constellation. In the same time I colonize all the good planets of my systems (except for the home system, which produces colonies), because it doesn't increase disapproval rate so much.

After the starting constellation is entirely colonized, I improve my systems until they are entirely poppulated. Then, I attack a neighbor constellation and so on.

Also you could put multiple seed mods on bigger ships like battle ships or even dreadnoughts to put additional smiley: stickouttongueopulation: on a new system. (one smiley: stickouttongueopulation: per seed mod)
