Does anyone know of any definitive details on whether or when I can expect to play Endless Space on my Mac?

If anyone knows of an easy way to play currently, I'd also love you dearly for it, I'm dying to play, watching hours of LPs on Youtube has me aching to try it out.

I've gotten the game up and running under CrossOver 11 on my Mac. It's not quite perfect, as I detail here (last post), but it's stable enough to play for extended periods. CodeWeavers offers a free, full-featured demo of CrossOver for 14 days; licenses are admittedly a little on the pricey side, but if you're a student, you can get a nice educational discount fairly easily with just a short email. It's also worth noting that, depending on which option you select at checkout, that upfront price will allow you to download new major versions of CrossOver at no charge, in addition to the obligatory dot-upgrades and patches. (Plus, buying CX helps fund WINE improvements.)

If you don't have the scratch for a copy of CX, you can always try something like Wineskin, or you could just download and install WINE itself. (Should you choose the latter option, I can't vouch for how ES might work in the dev version -- CW naturally only uses the stable versions in CX.) Of course, depending on your level of tech savvy, these may require greater investments of time and troubleshooting.

As for a Mac-native version of ES, I've heard that Amplitude is aiming for a release around August 27th, but I have no idea how accurate that is. They are working on it, though.

Hmm okay thanks, nice to know that word seems to be it's being worked on, hope it's done next month. Do you know if there's a free demo or alpha/beta build I can try for free on CrossOver for the time being? Don't really wanna end up buying two versions of the same game :/

Both Steam and GamersGate have buy-once policies for cross-platform titles; if you buy the Windows version now from either store, you also get access to the Mac version as well when it's released.

Good morning, metallic_igloo!

I am waiting patiently for the Mac version myself. No precise timing has been given for its release, but they're working on it.

I guess it's asap. August 24th is the release date of the retail (box) version, so it should be before that.

Chiming in as another fan of the genre waiting for the Mac native version. It would be nice if it was just in an App Store. Think of me when inviting people for prerelease testing!

The Steam store, not the App Store. Just like the PC version.

I'm just glad that they're doing the port in-house. The guys that ported Civilization 5 over to OS X did a terrible job, and it's usually several patches behind the PC version, making it very hard to find a multiplayer game.
