Hi,

I am new to space 4x games, but I consider myself as decent Civilization (5 and 4) player.

I am learning Endles Space managment (leaving practisng warfare for later) and have food managment question.

Settings (relevant) I play - slow pace, normal difficulty, random planets size, random galaxy age.

In mid/late game, my developed system tend to have very big food production and I can't see the point of keeping it that way. I think, I expand fast enough, so this one is not an issue. Should I:

- build more colony ships and expand to already taken systems, but with uncolonised planets (instead of colonizing them by themself)?

- change all farms into IDS exploitations?

- sell food improvements, if any?

- terraform Tier I planets to Aird/Tundra/Desert?

I will happly take your suggestions into my consideration ;]

I will answer some of your questions;

1-Yes, you should do that, but build colonies in only one system (I usually use my home system to do that).

2-You also should do that, but only if your system is entirely populated.

3-You should sell fodd improvements only if your system doesn't have many lava/barren/gas/asteroids and if your system is entirely populated.

4-You should not downgrade your planets, as their FIDS value are almost always better than that provided by lower tiers planets. The only execption is for Dust, which is better provided by arid planets than by terran planets, but only if the planet is not huge or if you have the crowded planet bonus.

I have to disagree with only building colony ships in your home system. It really all depends the relative population and industry of the systems you are colonizing. Quite often the first system I colonize will surpassed my home system before it turns into a colony so I usually have several systems turning out colony ships until I run out of sytems to colonize.

Most starting systems don't have much potential beyond the first planet. That makes it ideal for spamming colony ships. Usually you can drop a +food exploit on it, and just churn out a new colony ship every 3-5 turns without depleting the system of population. This leaves your newly settled systems free to build up infra-structure and additional population.
