Does this game have a pause during real time - to give orders, change plans, build something, etc.

Can real time be slowed down, as in Distant Worlds?

Thanks!

There is no real time besides the battles. And even those are kinda turn based, just with a timer.

You make your moves (Building / research etc) hit the button for next turn

It's a simultaneous turn-based game, i.e. everyone including AI is governed by the turn and their ships can move at anytime, just as you can do with yours until you press end turn. And yes, you should buy it!! smiley: biggrin

It's definitely alot different from Distant Worlds, more fast paced 4X than a space grand strategy game, and combat employs a card-based strategic system over pre-emptive battle planning and reactive orders.

It's not comparable to Distant Worlds.

Distant Worlds is a lot deeper and more alive. ES on the other hand has a very slick production and probably one of the best GUIs of all 4x games. Both are worth their money, both play different. Es to me feels sometimes more like a board game.

Is Distant Worlds turned base or real time? The wikipedia entry doesn't cover much about the game

You won't be needing fast reflexes in Endless Space, if that's your principal concern. The turns are shared, meaning the turn only ends when all players are ready, so there's still a bit of the ability to react to opponents, but you don't need to micromanage multiple fleets and systems in real time like Sins of a Solar Empire.

Good. The best times I've had in RTS land is slowing down the pace to min so as to micromanage difficult situations. Turn-based is even better.

Worst time was WC III where they were trying for some bizarre action/RTS hybrid.

I'm old enough to remember Pax Imperia and Spaceward Ho!

Open up YouTube, type 'lets play distant worlds'. You should like this game quite a bit, Shiv. Like ES, it isn't flawless, however. Also, it is pretty expensive (when I bought, anyway).
