I found a great mod that I'd like to use, unfortunately it only works for the english version as it is a mod to "Localization_Locales.xml".

Since I otherwise don't really care if the game is in my native language or in english this would be the reason to switch it to english.

My problem is: I can't find where to switch it.

Yay, i'm not alone - Steam installed my Game in German, as my "native" language is german - but this is an english/international forum therefore i wanted to change my langue to English - but i couldn't find an Option for it..

Or did i just miss the button?

Yeah, it's really hard to talk about certain things like buildings for example. I usually call them Food3, Industry6, Money3 and so on because that's their recognizable tag in the xmls. :\

Is your question actually about how to change the language your whole game appears in? Didn't it start out in english but you switched it to german? The button is in steam, under library, right click on the game, select properties, choose the language tab. I thought your question was about how to modify the mod, in which case ...

a. If you don't do anything, the mod will still work, but for any string the modder has customized, you will just see %SomeRandomString. This is unfriendly but not fatal.

b. If you copy the modder's files Modding\(their mod)\localization\english\*.xml to Modding\(their mod)\localization\(your language), then you will get their english strings instead of %SomeRandomString. Since you clearly read english, this will give you english strings mixed in with (your language). This is slightly more friendly.

c. The modder should copy their own files Modding\(their mod)\localization\english\*.xml to Modding\(their mod)\localization\(every other language)\ so that players do not experience (a) and do not need to do anything to get (b).

d. Feel free to translate (their mod)\localization\english\(their file).xml into your language and post it back to the author; I am sure they will include it in their next revision.

I found the Button in Steam but it does not allow me to select any other language than german. I never switched it from english to german. It never asked me. It just started out as being german from the beginning on.

However, I found a way to switch language:

Copy the File "Localization_Locales.xml" from Endless Space/Public/Localization/english to Space/Public/Localization/german, say yes to overwrite.

Oh... just saw you describe the same. The Mod I'm talking about was that colors-mod. You know which one I mean.

That is odd. Is there some "higher level" steam menu where you selected german? When I go to the languages tab, I can select english, french or german in the dropdown.

Thanks davea - the button for french, english and german appeared after restarting Steam a few times (and updating it once)

The select-language-button in steam worked now. Don't know why it didn't do so earlier.
