I'm not sure if this a bug or something but when I try to move to a star owned by another faction, it won't let me move at all. I've tried: Disbanding fleet, restarting game, making new ships. Nothing is working, can somebody tell me what is wrong?

Did the enemy planet have a circle around it? Like the one around your home planet?

Planets within the "circle of influence" become territories, and you cannot trespass on that territory unless you have a peace treaty.

If their planet does not have a circle of influence, then is there another ship in the same system as the one you're in? Enemy ships can "blockade" a system, and prevent your ships from leaving until you destroy theirs.

If it's none of the above, then try pressing Left Shift a few times.

If none of the above helps, then I'll ask the obvious: ...did you end the turn?

To answer in order:

Yes, but we have a peace treaty.

There are no other enemy ships nearby.

Just tried didn't work.

Nope.

Although I should note now, the enemy sent me a treaty to open the borders. After accepting, NOW I can enter. So I can't enter a friendly faction until I do that?

I was just about to edit that into my post; I'd forgotten about the need for open borders.

I don't know if you can ask for open borders without having a peace treaty, though.

The only thing I can seem to do in my diplomacy is declare war. So I didn't even know it existed.

You need to research new diplomacy options before you can use them. They're in the left tree.

You can always declare war, though, since you kind of need to in order to win the game.

Noted, thank you for the help.

Oh, and in case you're wondering how to make alliances, you need a technology far down the left tech tree.
