Yeah you´re right with your suggestion colony ships are just onetime use in each colony ship are some people and if you colonize a system then get thesse people off and start to found a new colony but this last a few turns

if you wnat to colonize a new system you have to build a new one but to do this you have to "sacrifice" one smiley: stickouttongueopulation:

you also can colonize a planet in a System having already one colonized planet but to do this you also have to use one smiley: stickouttongueopulation:

Hope I could help you

If you can make enough space, you can design a colony with multiple colony modules. In that case building it will remove the same number of smiley: stickouttongueopulation: as colony modules from the building system, and the new colony will start with that number of smiley: stickouttongueopulation:.

EDIT: The OP should also note that you don't need to build a colony ship to colonise a planet in a system that already has a colony. You can just select that planet and select the colonise build item for it. Just in case you didn't know.

The colony ship "costs" 1 population to create for each "seed module" you eqip it with. You can then colonize a planet with it OR move population from one planet to another (crucial to make a system productive faster). Simply travel to the system - the colonize option in the fleet menu will be active - you can then "colonize" the already colonized planet.

If you have a colony in a system already, and your planet has more than 1 population you can double click another planet in the system - in the left upper corner below the planet info you will see the colonize planet option. It will be colonized by taking 1 pop from your original planet.

Most likely you will end up having a single planet system with good food production producing colony ships constantly to improve low food worlds.

Why the surprise? I'm not aware of any 4X game besides SotS2 (which is a particular case with it's fleet missions) which would let you keep your colony ship after it has been used...
