So I was just exploring the galaxy with my Investigator and I came across an Amoeba Defender after arriving at a star system. A battle is apparently going to start, but I have no intention of fighting them (or, at least not yet). How do I stop the battle? Can I stop the battle?

Fighting with an Investigator is never a good idea.

So if you travel clueless in a fight with Investigator .. good bye Investiagtor.

You should try to send first your army if you build one. In early game without army - discovery it's mostly luck. Pirates are all over the universe.

Don't whine about one Investigator - discovery it's kind of luck - ask Columbus smiley: sarcastic

I realize that one Investigator is not much of a loss and since I am ~40 turns in I can quickly build a new one. I was just hoping that it would be possible to travel to a star system owned by someone else without fighting them.

(There was a typo in my first post that might have given the wrong idea.)

Corrected:

I have no intention of fighting them.

No, there is no way to prevent the fight other than trying to quickly move out of that system before the computer decides to attack you (which it seems to always do on first contact). Its the price you pay for rapid exploration and you cannot escape combat but you CAN play the retreat card and in the early game you should survive.

As said above, playing the retreat card early game nearly always lets you survive encounters.

The retreat card so far has always enabled me to save my entire fleet, no matter how many/what ships, early to late game.

So @OP, go manual fight, and in phase one, select the card with the white flag. I have not yet found an option to use that card (or any card for that matter) in auto mode, so you need manual

The retreat card allows the enemy to fire before you retreat. If you encounter a large beam armed fleet with a scout, the single round of fire they get may be enough to destroy a scout. So, it is "highly likely" you can escape, but not "guaranteed".

Yes, sorry I wasn't very specific about that, good point

Unless you're trying to Ironman a game just load an autosave. You should have one for each of your last 5 turns.

I just wanted to ask if there is a shortcut for a retreat without starting a hopeless fight against overpowering opposition, but now I am pleased to read of Polaris (with battle cards in auto mode). So we just have to wait for a little while.
