Hi folks, new fish here. I scoured the forums for info/reports of this but couldn't find my exact query.

I am playing as United Empire and seem to be able to freely fly into Sophos influence. We are 'At Peace' but not 'Open Borders'.

Am I missing something here? I seem to be able to fly several Armadas in and out of their systems without consequence. Seems a bit odd.

Is this a bug?

Thanks.

Depends if you a flying into colonies (influence stems from these) or outposts (new colonized systems with no influence). I'm guessing you were flying right through their systems? Or were you only allowed to fly into their systems somewhat?

It boils down to the same explantion everytime this question comes up:

If you don't know yet that there is a border, you as well as your opponents can violate it on the first visit.

Once the border is actually known, no further ships can move through it anymore.

And as Digitalhawk said: You can always "visit" colonies as long as they don't have a border yet.

They are full blown colonies with coloured influence rather than outposts. I seem to be able to move in and out freely (i.e. not just once).

That sounds like a bug. As far as I'm aware the only way to do that is with Open Borders or being at War, and since you said you're at Peace without Open Borders... yeah. I can't think of anything else that would let you do that, so my only guess is 'bug'.

After a little more play, my best guess this was in some way due to an alliance I had with the Pilgrims. Through the alliance I could see pretty much the whole galaxy, but I technically hadn't sent my ships down every string/pathway. So even though certain systems appeared to be explored, I hadn't actually explored them myself. This allowed me to fly into them and move around a bit, but after a few turns it left me with a couple of fleets stuck in their influence.
