Reinforcing troops, orbital bombardments, low tech weapons?

I'm loving the fact that we can now launch ground invasions etc but i can't for the life of me figure out how to replace troops lost during an invasion. All i've been able to do is scrap the ships that now have no troops and rebuild them or revise the ship design, change nothing and then 'retrofit' the ships without troops.



Also, while i'm here, if someone could explain to me why i can't bombard a system from orbit unless i have a ship with ground troops in it that would be great.



And what happened to my low tech weapons?!? it's not as if when mankind discovered iron he suddenly forgot how to make bronze, or forgot how to ride horses when he created armoured vehicles.

Same here, can not for the life of me find out how I'm supposed to resupply troops lost in ground invasions.



I hadn't really noticed not being able to bombard without troops.. well I had but hadn't taken any notice because I didn't have bombardment ships.

My troops magically reappeared after a few turns. Why? I have no idea!



Is there a way to invade a system without razing all improvements?

You mean it takes time to train troops? I can't just shove men in uniforms and ship 'em to the front? What's up with that!



My invasions to date haven't had any improvements lost (I don't think, anyways). Watch out for collateral damage to buildings, is probably what the problem is.

Repair modules should allow you to repair lost troopers, by...repairing the module? But at least it should be the same way you replenish fighters and bombers.



You can use the bombs with troops as well? nice. Anyway I figure the bomb modules are a kind of munitions manufacturing centres that require a delivery method, fighters and bombers can be used as delivery methods for these explosives, but as you have found out, so can troopers (Special operations forces?) but there is a risk that you might lose troops or craft while during the bombing to enemy AA improvements.



I believe this was a attempt by the dev's to prevent strategy's involving the use of hundreds of low level ships to simply cheese a victory by never losing due to how quickly they could be produced, so now weapons auto-upgrade to the next one in line so that they cost more over the game. I don't mind the idea, but as others have surmised that with the defences especially when you upgrade, you might not always have the resources to build them again. So be warned, and if possible try to ensure you at least have some titanium for the use of HP mods in-case you lose a defence from an upgrade.



If the upgrades worry you currently, creating a ship design before you upgrade with the last defence or weapon type, then when you get the new tech don't upgrade that new design, and it wont require the resource. You know, as a back up ship.
