Strategic Combat Value of Star Systems

In ES is there any strategic combat value to star systems? Putting resources aside, I'm curious if a star system or planet can have it's defenses bolstered. I'm used to playing Sins of a Solar Empire where I can build starbases at key locations or the Total War series when I can build forts to defend a certain city or region.\

Well, before warp drives are researched certain systems can be used as chokepoints (SoSE style). It is best to place a few fleets in the system and block the jump lines.



As for system defence, the only thing you can do is place defensive buildings against bombardment, siege and invasion. There are no defence gun-like constructions available (although you could, in theory, mod 0-movement ships into the game to fill tjhat role).

I still think invasion/defense need work. A few suggestions I would make:



1 - Have some tech available that slows down enemy warping into your influence, either using the warp lines or directly. This will allow for defense and be less of an "all or nothing" shit i moved a fleet so now my home system was wasted in 1 turn by bombs!



2 - I think troops/bombs are too strong. I like systems that let you fight vs. defenses directly - like ships vs. missile bases, satellites, and all that.



3 - Make multiple planets matter - so you can have more bases depending on the size and number of planets/systems.



also, I said this before - now that we have tech that pillages/destroys, have the default scrap rate be a MAX of 1/Turn!

The direct defense combat system would be cool, but impractical with current game engine design.
