This is my first time playing the game and I love it. I just got a little notification saying that one of the other factions has an "imminent victory" for economic development. But the little graphic says he is only at 50% toward economic victory.

My question: is it possible to prevent an imminent victory or am I playing for second place? This applies for all types of victories, not just economic.

Thanks!

If it wasn't possible to prevent it they probably would have ended the game already.

I think it's set at 50% because resource income grows roughly exponentially; the first 50% Dust takes much longer than the last 50%.

It is technically possible, if sometimes very difficult. You'll have to focus all your attention on that player, try to take awway his best systems... basically you can prevent that now by killing or severely incapitating that faction.

I was able to eek out a scientific victory in a Normal difficulty game once by playing a pretty nasty trick against an AI that had an imminent economic victory on the horizon. They stupidly accepted a deal with the devil (me).

What I did was offer the AI faction (I wanna say it was Pilgrims but it was a few games back) three of my planets in a trade, one per turn. I was careful to choose planets that had either very low income or were slightly in the red. I also, of course, didn't hand over any with any significant science output as I was going for the Tech win. In exchange, I demanded a pretty significant amount of Dust per turn (thousands per turn), which whittled their income down to quite a bit less than they were on track to win with. The fact that a few of my systems within my sector of space went over to an opponent was a minimal hit as

I can't say that I was proud of winning this way, though it did work. Just throwing that out there in case you wanted to give it a shot. smiley: wink

Every time one of my gallactic neighbors are about to win, I try to forge an alliance to destroy him. Don't stop untill the one is severely weakened or completelly obliterated, or you may regret it later.

Hi,

I am currently discovering the game little by little and just read that thread, which sparked my interest (to say the least).

How can you bargain / exchange with other civilizations ? I am 83 percent done with an expansion victory and having tried - and failed. twice - with military expansion, I am just thinking that buying my expansion victory could be the easy way to win my first game ever of this brilliant game.

thanks in advance smiley: smile
