I've not been playing this game for very long but in each of my attempts thus far on normal difficulty I always seem to after 70-80 turns or so be lagging behind the AI teams in terms of score sometimes even by 500 points in one game despite seemingly according to the trading screens to be fairly level on at least the technology front (currently ranked 2nd for tech in that game) and clearly that means that I'm not doing something right.



If somebody could post how the score is calculated that would be awesome and help me work out what I'm doing wrong or need to improve on

For your question about score, I don't think we know the answer. Ship strength seems to be a major component. However, if you find you are getting out-produced, I highly recommend the early game strategy threads in the strategy sub-forum (although they may be "a little" out of date for the latest patch) and also the 30-game challenges. Stop by this thread and see how you do compared to other experienced players on the same map:
