Hi all, I am a novice, and have a question: is it better just to colonize only planets with food+industry=5 points or more, or is it better to settle all those possible, maybe choosing the good time to do it with the hardest planets?

in my first game (difficulty newbie) the AI colonize all colonizable planets. I don't know if (and when) should do the same.

I read a bit but haven't yet found the answer, if there is already a thread could you please attach me the link? thanks.

the ai tend to ignore happiness so following in their step isn't always the best. in my experience, the best strategy is to colonize planets one at a time starting with food producing planets and lower tier planets. i then usually go after the higher tier planets after researching happiness improvements. though this may not be the best strategy as i usually play as the sheredyn or vaulters. what faction are you playing as?

United Empire. But also AI had the United Empire. After 100 rounds I was back to 230 points. I dropped the game and restarted with Horatio, following the Tutorial for Beginners by ArrowLance at the beginning of the forum. I am at the beginning of it and so I don't know how will go ahead the colonization.

Colonize the secondary planets in your systems as approval permits (trying not to waste too much food by having all colonized planets full). Note that systems outside your territory produce half science and dust so these kinds of secondary planets can wait a bit. One thing specific to UE is that they want to run taxes as high as possible, so be very picky with grabbing new planets and especially systems.

the UE also wants as much influence as possible, so try to colonize as many systems as possible and build satellites in every system.

You can't have both... How strong is the effect of Trade Bureaus anyway compared to UE's tax smiley: industry bonus?

well after you research as much techs reducing expansion dissapproval as possible, and only settling on low tier planets with no negative anomalies, you should be able to have both quite easily. all that matters for that is how much territory you control, not how developed it is.

I guess that is easier to do on lower difficulty levels... Also, the development of your systems ( smiley: stickouttongueopulation: and smiley: fids ) directly determines the extent of your Influence disk.
