The AI declares war then offers me 2 out of their 4 systems for peace the next turn.

Neither of us had ships on the other's system nor had we engaged in any fighting during our 1 turn war

How odd and sorry to hear this. In the past, I've always found the AI offers to give up planets to be logical.

Hello Taltamir,

We have a look at your saves and our guess is that the AI didn't declares war to you directly, but make an alliance with an other AI which was already in war against you for most than 10 turns, and then asked you for a cease fire.

While this explains WHY this bug occurs, its still a bug that needs fixing.

I see you have marked it as solved, does that mean next patch will fix this issue?

This is not a bug, this is a choice made by the AI. The AI has desire, the bigger one in this case is to make an alliance with the automaton, then it will see that the automaton are in war with you, but now their desire is not to make war with you because you are too powerful, so it will propose a cease fire.

Ok, and I am saying that when the AI considers its desire to make an alliance with a faction, it should check to see who it will get in war with from that, and how willing it is to actually wage war against said faction.

I have witnessed anecdotal situation just today. It was single player on hard difficulty already down to me (Sheredyn), Sowers, Automatons, and Pilgrims. I'm evenly conquering Sowers; Automatons and Pilgrims are watching this with increasing uneasiness, though maintain peace with me plus some resource deals. In the mean time Automatons decide to fight Pilgrims. Attitude to me rises to Neutral for both. Then apparently Automatons conclude that in a war another ally will not hurt. They hug their mechanical brethren the Sowers. O pity, this means war with me. The irony is the siege of last Sowers system is scheduled to end next turn!

while this explains HOW this happens, it is still clearly a bug as the end result is still that the AI declares war on me and immediately offers me half their stuff for peace.

The solution is very simple, when considering an alliance, it should consider current wars by said faction and whether or not it can afford to join said wars.
