I am unable to launch the game since upgrading to Windows 10. I have tried compatibility options, and running with admin rights. It launches the steam window with the CD-keys, click Okay. Then it opens a window installing VC Redist package, and then nothing. It never appears in the program manager, and it never registers as a running process. I have re-installed the game as well.

Ouch! I have Windows 10 downloaded ready to upgrade, but I'll put it off indefinitely if it keeps me from playing Endless Space.

One thing you could try (it's a long shot) is to delete the .vdf file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Endless Space

I'd like to hear from others who have upgraded to Windows 10: Can you run Endless Space?

I deleted the file you suggested, now it no longer opens the second window. It simply does nothing at all.

Not good. Sounds like ES needs this package to run and Windows 10 doesn't have it nor can accommodate the setup program. I can't find anything that mentions it on the web.

You can restore the .vdf file if you want either from your recycle bin or by doing a game cache refresh.

One option you do have is that you have 30 days to downgrade back to your original Windows version. If Endless Space is your only issue, that may not be worth it for you.

I still hope to hear from anyone else who has upgraded to Windows 10: Can you run Endless Space?

It would also be nice to hear from a developer about this.

I am not able to downgrade, I didn't load the copy of Windows 7 that was on this computer my self, so I didn't have the key to revert with. Either way, Compatibility mode is supposed to be the fix all for stuff like this. Yet again proving why MicrosoftWorks is an oxymoron.

The ability to downgrade is built into Windows 10 itself as long as it's been less than 30 days since you upgraded:

There can be some minor issues with doing this. For example, some of your old shortcuts might not work and would need to be re-created.

Yes, however you do need the old CD-key in order to do it, already had a friend try to do the option and he was essentially forced to re-upgrade because his cd-key was blocked. And Microsoft never did give him a reason for the blocking of his key, but with a now illegal copy he wasn't able to do a lot of stuff he was formerly able to do on Win 7.

It seems like this issue is not related to windows 10, as I managed to run the game fine on my win10 laptop. Perhaps suggestions in this or this thread can reslove your issue?

Generally speaking 'upgrades' of win10 might make games fail because when you upgrade a lot of the redistributables are uninstalled or unregistered as part of the upgrade to Win10.

To fix 99.99999% of 'my game no longer works on Windows 10'

1) Run Steam as an Administrator

2) Re-run any redistributables. VCredist, XNAredist, Dxsetup (yes you have to do this!), UEredist, etc

For Endless Legend specifically go to

\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Endless Legend\_CommonRedist

And re run all 3 of the directx, dotnet, vcredist stuff

3) Go into the exe directly and run in win7 compatibility mode

Doing these steps will fix almost all games in Windows 10

Hi,

I have the same problem, bought and downloaded the game today for my birthday and it wont work.

Ive tried the options you listed above, im getting a little confused with this section tho...

when i follow the file pathways you gave i see no \_CommonRedist folder or any of the directx, dotnet, vcredist stuff you mention, however it does say thats for Endless Legends?

Can anyone help me out, really gutted here...

I got off the line with the Microsoft help people, there is no way for me to correct this problem using their program updaters. They did it via remote access for every single possible updating file over a 3 hour period, and it still wont launch.

Having exactly the same problem too. It won't appear in the program manager, and changing it to compatability mode does nothing.

Hello,

Probably I have method to fix it.

EndlesSpace.exe Exception 0xc0000005 <-- this is what I got in Windows Log and I find this article about this exception:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/239451-45-0xc0000005-access-violation

I don't get exactly why ES after update Windows from 8.1 to 10 get corrupted, probably some M$ update corrupt this smiley: frown

Ok, this is what I do to fix ES:

1) Move or rename directory with ES ( don't uninstall ES, you will lost only time smiley: smile

2) "Delete local file" in Steam Client

3) Clean M$ Registry using in example CCleaner

4) Move back or rename directory with ES to original place

5) Install ES in Steam Client, this will check local existed files and after that you can play smiley: smile ( this is faster then install it form internet )

This work for me, pleas check this method.

Probably this will work for another games with exactly same exception in Windows Log.

Ok, few words about VC Redist package, if you want reinstall it, first remove SP1 for this package, VC Redist 2010 installer is included in ES directory, but M$ Update install last version of this package.

But there is no point in reinstall it, if this problem occur because VC Redist 20XX is corrupt you will have problem with another application and there will by some pop-up message, so just leave alone VC Redist. smiley: smile
