Windows 10 problem

ES has a very strange behaviour under Windows10 on my laptop.

Firstly it didn't at all and hanged all the time. I experimented with compatibility modes and finally it works, but partly.

I tried all the variations of compatibility modes (WinXP, Win7, Win8 + run as administrator) and the problem is the following:

Without any compatibility mode the game runs (I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del seeing the black and then it launches), but I have a pink background instead of all videos. Yes, I can play, but I want videos too. If I run under Win7/Win8 compatibility mode (no matter the administrator) videos play good and no black screens, but it hangs after pressing any button in the main menu interface.

I just have no more ideas how to merge this together...

Hello!

I have the same problem, after installing the Win 10 update 1151. The only difference is that if i put compatibility mode to Win 7 or 8 the game wont start at all. Everything is fine if i set it to compatibility with Win XP (SP3).

I'm going to throw something out there, but that might be an issue with your graphics card and/or its drivers.

Given that you're on a laptop and so is the first poster, may I suggest checking that your graphics drivers are up-to-date for Windows 10?

I added the log file for me. So far in Win XP (SP3) compatibility mode i have no problems.

In your case, verify install in steam as you appear to be missing files and parameters which should be there in vanilla.

A work-around seems to help here: start game and wait a few seconds on the black screen. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and cancel out of the menu. You should be presented with a pink screen, this is the opening credits. Either wait or click through to get to the ES loading screen and the game runs fine after this.

A windows 10 update changed something that is causing this.

(notes: ctrl+alt+delete means to hit all three keys at the same time)

Hate to be "that guy", but Endless Space has always run just as expected and intended on Windows 10 here. Even during the early betas.

I found this on the Steam forums: (I thought it might apply)

"Try going into the game's directory in your Steam directory, right click the executable, set it to run as admin in Windows 7 compatibility mode. That worked for me (launching from Steam it will obey the properties you set on the executable, its just like a shortcut)"
