A friend sent the best Christmas present I've gotten in years : Endless Space Gold package .

After going through the Steam process to activate the Game, I can get Game to run for 5-7 minutes before A) the music stops, and goes to a buzzing sound;

B) the screen freezes, and cursor arrow cannot be moved;

C) "escape", or ANY other control keys does NOT solve this problem;

leading to D) power-down to regain the use of my Dell(2011) Inspirion N7110, which has Windows 7 Home Premium (which works !!), and an Intel CORE i7 .

On my games computer, this Game is the only one that consistently has problems . Please help .

I'm sorry to hear you have such trouble getting Endless Space to run, since it's a great game, but I'm afraid the Amplitude staff won't be able to help you yet with the information you provided. You should check the Troubleshooting Thread and add the information listed there. The logs in particular are very important, and given your description of the problem, information on your soundcard might be important as well.

Hope your problems get fixed soon.

A work-around seems to help here: start game and wait a few seconds on the black screen. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and cancel out of the menu. You should be presented with a pink screen, this is the opening credits. Either wait or click through to get to the ES loading screen and the game runs fine after this.

A windows 10 update changed something that is causing this.

(notes: ctrl+alt+delete means to hit all three keys at the same time)

I found this on the Steam forums: (I thought it might be applicable)

"Try going into the game's directory in your Steam directory, right click the executable, set it to run as admin in Windows 7 compatibility mode. That worked for me (launching from Steam it will obey the properties you set on the executable, its just like a shortcut)"

I still don't get it, I keep getting an "installing a Mac Redisc"(or something like that) Pt. 1, every time I try to start the game; is this a regular thing ??

Or should I delete the gift game, and just BUY the Game, with hopes of a clean install ???

BTW, how do I set "executable" and "set it to run as admin in Windows 7 compatibility mode" ? I'm not computer "literate" .

Right click the game icon on your desktop, go to Properties and in the Compatibility tab, tick the box "Run this program as admin".

If the icon on your desktop is just a shortcut, find the Steam installation folder on your computer. For me it is: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Endless Space (default installation folder on my secondary partition), and select the Endless Space executable. smiley: smile

Try updating your drivers.

First, update your chipset drivers

1. Go to Dell n7110 product support

*Note: I had to use Internet Explorer, I could not get the site to work in Firefox

2. Click the dropdown to change the OS if necessary

3. Click the arrow next to "Chipset" and download the Intel HM67 Chipset Driver

*Note: You can ignore the other downloads for now

4. Browse to the folder where you downloaded the file (when it's finished)

5. Close all programs (except the file browser, naturally)

6. Double-click the EXE file you just downloaded

7. Follow the instructions on the installer

* Note: If the installer says you already have a newer driver, just close it and move on.

8. Reboot (or skip this step if the driver did not install)

Second, Update your Audio drivers

1. Go to Dell n7110 product support

*Note: I had to use Internet Explorer, I could not get the site to work in Firefox.

2. Click the dropdown to change the OS if necessary

3. Click the arrow next to "Audio" and download the most recent driver

4. Browse to the folder where you downloaded the file (when it's finished)

5. Close all programs (except the file browser, naturally)

6. Double-click the EXE file you just downloaded

7. Follow the instructions on the installer

* Note: If the installer says you already have a newer driver, just close it and move on.

8. Reboot (or skip this if the driver did not install)

Third, Update your Video drivers

1. Go to Dell n7110 product support

*Note: I had to use Internet Explorer, I could not get the site to work in Firefox.

2. Click the dropdown to change the OS if necessary

3. Click the arrow next to "Video" and download the most recent driver for your video card

To determine your card:

  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Type msinfo32.exe and click OK
  • In the window that appears, expand Components
  • Click on Display
  • Look at the Value for the Name item

After all this, try running the game again. If it still fails, post your logs as mentioned above.

Log file (PC: Steam > Steamapps > Common > Endless Space > Endless Space data > Output log. Mac: Library > Log > Unity > Player log)

You should be able to attach them to your next post.

Thanks for letting us know you found a way to make the game run! I think your GPU was likely the source of the issue (a 525M honestly isn't much of a graphics card), so limiting the performance required by your card is probably the best way to go about this. smiley: smile
