Hello i try my best to fill out the troubleshooting form so you know whats up.



Information: I wanted to play a round of Endless Space again after 3 month (last time i played was 25.12.2015) and found the game had no sound. I still had music on so i knew it wasn't related to sound muted or something. I also checked the options and the registry.xml with no results. I googled and found some "fixes" that do not work for me, like setting the sound to 44.1 kHz or installing newest drivers. Also from the last time i played there were no updates to the game nor any updates of my sound drivers (latest ones are from early 2015). I tried to validate the installation, redownloaded 160 files but nothing changed. I can't get the sound in Endless Space to work. In Endless Legend the sound still works fine.



Specs: Win 7, i5-2500k, GTX 980, ESET Smart Security, up to date drivers.



Game files: I did the validation with no results.

//EDIT: Because i tried everything i could, i downloaded a cracked copy of Endless Space. It is the same version as my steam version. It also contains the Disharmony DLC like my steam version. So it is a exact copy of my steam version. HOWEVER i have sound in the cracked version, but still no sound in the steam version. I reinstalled it, deleted all Endless Space things, reinstalled my drivers, set the audio to 44.1 kHz etc. Before i installed the cracked version, i reverted everything to its former self (48 kHz audio etc). and it works with sound. I hope that helps you because i have no friggin clue why the cracked version has sound, but my official version does not... Also i hope you can forgive me for downloading a cracked version, but i figured it is ok, because i own the original and used the cracked version for testing purposes.

Sorry for the sounds problems. I read your log file and it appears that the audio system initialization is done correctly ... so normaly you should have sound.

The problem may be with your settings (linked to your steam account so it does not appear with cracked version). Try to delete your Endless Space folder (in c:\User\userName\Documents\Endless Space), don't forget to baclup your saves !

If it's not working, I remember that we had some issues with the 'mute on lost focus' feature. Try top switch from 'full screen' to 'windowed' (or inverse) to see if it change anything.

Sadly this changed nothing other than me having to restart steam, because after i deleted the folder the game won't start. Short blackscreen and nothing else. After restarting steam it started normal again, but still no sound.

This did not change anything either.



I am really at a loss as to why i don't have sound anymore.. until 3 month ago everything worked fine and i have sound in other games, too. Well i tried every game i have currently installed (~130) and the only other game where i also have no sound anymore is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.



I don't know if Endless Legend runs on a different engine, but in Endless Legend i still have sound, same in Dungeon of the Endless.

Hum it's very strange ...

Endless Space, Endless Legend and Dungeon of the Endless use the same sound engine so it should not have a different behavior.



Have you tried to up the volume ? we had a lot of issue where we put 1 in volume audio settings it should set the volume to 100%, sometimes the volume is set to 1% and we didn't hear anything.

I got it working again!



I still don't know what caused it, but deleting every single Endless Space entry in the registry along with any Endless Space files on my PC with a fresh installation did it for me. The registry "purge" was the key here, as i did the other stuff about 4 times.



Still thanks for your tips and advice, without it i wouldn't have thought of removing stuff in the registry along side the MyDocuments folder.
