My brother (who played with his friend with my game) had no such problems. So, it might be a local problems. Just to inform that this is no way an universal thing.

I play muliplayer most every night and never have steam crash us out. There have been lock ups when more than one of us entered a battle with a third player / ai - fixed now.

But never lock up and crash. Did have it dump folks after they eliminated me as the host. But it saved the game first on all player machines.

So far steam only kicked me, or rather us, once out of the game. Given I play other steam-server based games though I can sing a song of steam not being too close to 100% uptime. It's not the biggest issue but it can be quite annoying sometimes.

It's the steam summer sale, it'le go away in a few days.

This is probably the core reason... We have experienced this problem when a game is on sale, and the servers are being overrun... Once everything calmed down, server drops and game crashes stopped... Right now, tons of games are on sale, and I am sure the servers are screaming... lol

The servers don't usually scream from data download - servers generally scream from requests.

Buying stuff and downloading doesn't generate many requests.

Steam rarely has connection issues due to their mass agreements and high server localization rates. Are you aware of any ISP service priority agreements your ISP may have with Steam? Secondly, perhaps your internet connection has stability profiles you can switch to online through an interface or over the phone? These profiles tend to sacrifice outright speed to stability, and require a user to opt in generally.

Lolz
