I think that, if they would change the game mechanics so turns didn't happen simultaneously - for example, make it so ships only moved when you hit "end turn" - then removing the region barriers would be a definite possibility. Right now, because players can sort of "compete" for speed (one player tries to move to another system to run away while the other player is trying to Attack before he can do that), I assume that's the reason for the barriers, and if that were fixed the region barriers would loosen up.

Don't get me wrong, even SP I sometimes play on the faster settings; it just makes for a radically different balance to the game than on the "normal" settings, and most of the time I prefer the "normal" settings. Sadly, it appears that there isn't any similar feeling amongst the normal MP players; though this might change once MP becomes more stable in general and has a larger audience smiley: wink

Tbh I think Endless Space is just twice as awesome on fast settings. It really feels like the future then - technology advancements happening all the time, huge fleets duking it out - priceless ^_^

OT I have to agree that 4x games players are mostly singleplayer gamers. I myself tend to play those game in such a way so that I feel like the master of my own universe and don't have to pause my game every time my friends unplug from their computers (apparently they have a life... nabs <_< ). I still do like to play multi every now and then, but those are always "friends-only" games so I can actually hope for them to have a conclusion.

Yes..... this is true smiley: smile smiley: approval

My main issue with multiplayer for most 4x games is the tendency for the MP people to be "impatient" and play on the fastest speeds with short turn timers - which takes away a lot of the feel of the core game in SP. That said, when you can find a group of people that actually want to play with "normal" SP settings, it can be significantly more rewarding than just playing against the AI repeatedly smiley: wink

Still I don't see the region division as any good, the ping doesn't really matter and if you make a race for something than so will everyone else involved, I don't think the ping is really making a difference here.

Damn I haven't played for a month... I want to but I just don't find that one chunk of time for multiplayer.

If only the game was shorter in a multiplayer sense, as it takes a long amount of time to complete a multiplayer match, and of course, it always sucks when you end up losing since you put all that time into the game anyway. Ah well, it's still a great game.

unified regions would be amazing. its quite daunting to change the DL region, and there are soooooooooo many. perhaps every could just agree to use only 3 regions, depending on the time of day.

There are a lot of people who'd be willing to sit down for hours to enjoy a game, mainly hardcore 4X fans, but that's neither here nor there. Plus, if you play with friends or people you know/trust, you could still be free to quit/save/play without a hassle (unless you have bad friends).

I'd argue 4x games have traditionally been viewed as more singleplayer driven. Furthermore, considering games at least three hours, it's simply more convenient to play single and be free to quit/save/play at your own time scale, as opposed to having to devout one large chunk of time for multilayer. Don't get me wrong, multiplayer is good in my opinon, it's just more convenient for most people to do singleplayer. I personally do both single and multiplayer games. Single games over the week days, and a multi game or two over the weekend.

Anyhow, as Fenrakk101 has pointed out, the game is unfortunately region based, so change your download location to somewhere in the US, and you can play with US players.

The game lobby is restricted by region. Meaning, if you're in an area where not many people are playing, you'll not have many people to play with.

On the East Coast (of America) there's always a decent number of people playing. If you use Steam and want to play with people in a different region, open up Settings, go to the "Downloads + Cloud" tab, and change your "Download Region" (it's a drop-down menu).

And chromodynamics is rather incorrect. 4X games are often very competitive in multiplayer; I also prefer to play in single-player, unless I'm with friends, but when you look at the game lobbies for ES or for other 4X games like Sins you'll see that they're not barren and forgotten.

4x games tend to be rather single player. Ive never even looked at multiplayer for example. Pretty much no interest since I know itll be all rushing
