Why? All you have to do is make sure everyone selects a default race lol. If they dont want to use default only, they will leave anyway. Same thing.

Also, why are you so hell-bent on selecting default empires? Everyone has a different play style, and they should make factions that reflect this. The faction trait point limit prevents overpowering anyway, doesn't it?

OP: Hell-bent? How can you make that judgement on one sentence that just states something I'd like to see in game?

With the option, it would speed up lobby waiting times. It's just a simple feature I'd like to see.

Sorry, hell-bent was a pretty harsh word. But I haven't used it since 2001 and thought I should use it again.

And it won't really speed up lobby waiting times (at least for these types of games where custom factions are banned), because of the following reasons:

1. Those who want to play with a default faction will choose one in the same amount of time as a "regular" game,

2. Those who want to play with a custom faction will join another game where custom factions are permitted.

Pretty much sums that up.

And anyway, why include this feature when it is so much easier to just tell them to select a default empire and even then, why? Why ban something the devs implemented for a reason in the game, why limit someones obsession with the Borg or likewise customized faction? It just adds more variety and fun to the game.

You can fake a default faction so nobody can tell in the lobby due to the limited information people have on what you're playing.

That's silly, nobody would fake that to get an unfair advantage![/s]

@ OP: We make custom factions because the defaults are not very good. You're forcing people to adopt a play style they don't want to follow, and it would make you wait longer because people that don't like defaults would just leave.

I would also like to see this option. Default race games would be a nice option.

Consdering it's impossible to name lobbies this option would be useful for default races only games. However, if we could name our lobbies 'default races only' this option wouldn't be needed as much because the people joining the lobby would know the 'rules'.

I think that some custom races are overpowered. Some players succeed in colonizing a lot of planets in a few turns. It is incredible

that some players could be sure that they will win at the 30th turn. Something should be done.

Were those players playing sowers (or well variants) so they could colonize any planet? And how can you be sure you can win at turn 30 (unless is a duel I guess - am thinking at least 4 MP everyone for himself). Please if you can provide more info, appreciated!

Honestly, I rather like the idea of having an option to force default faction choices. It seems like a basic game-type that ought to be provided for simplicity's sake. You could tell people to choose a default faction, but that 1. doesn't ensure they will (some people may want to argue about it) and 2. it puts more work on the player.

I don't think its absolutely necessary, but I think it would be nice to have.
