I was going to post about the problem my friend and I have had after the patch, but I will instead put it under tech support.

I am curious has anyone has any success with multiplayer since the patch? We gave up after three different games became unplayable.

I played for the first time in a while, so I can give you a fresh example. Here's what happened:

1. Got booted from game because of Steam. Now this isn't a bug in the game per se except you can only play multiplayer through Steam. So, Steam can't be avoided.

2. Tried restarting the next day but save game was corrupt. Went to previous autosave. Fortunately, that one worked.

3. The game played okay for awhile until my friend was unable to attack an enemy he was at war with. Reloading from a saved game usually fixes things, so that's what we tried.

4. After reloading the game, my friend's fleets were scrambled. Game over. (After a save/reload, sometimes fleets get scrambled; sometimes they get stuck in the middle of nowhere; sometimes main fleets simply disappear.)

Other times, the game simply gets stuck. And others you start getting null reference errors. Sometimes reloading the game fixes any problems that pop up, but sometimes the game is too corrupt to continue.

This is very frustrating because this is one game that has stood the test of time. If they would have stabilized multiplayer and given us a multiplayer option that doesn't go through Steam, I could see myself playing this game many years. In many ways, it's the perfect multiplayer game for those who enjoy turn-based strategy games. Its simultaneous movement system is genious. The game has enough depth to make it interesting, but not too much to create a game that takes forever to finish.

Unfortunately, Amplitude has little incentive at this point to go back and clean things up. If only Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, or some other rich guy loved this game. Maybe they would have funded that ultimate patch that never came.
