I like them both.

Greatings from 2016! When I consolidate all of the mods, this is the one that I won't be including. It's not hard to understand, and I think of the "cards" as abstract orders for spaceships rather than a card game...

Trump makes sense to me. But kind of not quite... right?



Thought.

"Triumph" sounds more dramatic and includes the suggestion of victory / beating the other card. I think that's the kind of work you're looking for?

    Heh... I don't need the Mod now. Just the OP's introductory explanation and Thuvian's example. Somehow, I never managed to pick all that up from the text. Also explains why the rare occasions when the AI opted to engineer attack my self healing fleets it was devastating.



    Oh... and I play (ed) bridge so I like trump... but I think counter is more appropriate in this context. Block was sort of obvious but also sort of confusing when Block added damage.

  • If neither Player A or Player B cards counter each other, both Players get their applicable base card effect.
  • If Player A counters Player B's card, then Player A gets the base effect of the card AND an additional bonus. Player B's card is cancelled.
  • If Player B counters Player A's card, then Player B gets the base effect of the card AND an additional bonus to his card. Player A's card is cancelled. (the opposite of the previous situation)
  • If both Player A and Player B cards counter each other, then no card effects occur.

    Name: Dust Warheads

    Original Text:



    +25% kinetics crit chance (block: +15%)

    +25% missiles crit chance (block: +15%)



    Rewritten Text:



    +25% your kinetic crit chance (trump: +40%)

    +25% your missile crit chance (trump: +40%)



    Situation 1. Both normal

    • Player A plays Dust Warheads, Player B plays a card that is does not block and is not blocked by Dust Warheads.
    • Player A resolves normally, he receives the base bonus of the Card, he does not gain the bonus effect.
    • Player A +25% kinetic crit chance
    • Player A +25% missile crit chance
    • Player B's card also resolves normally.







    Situation 2 Player A Counters

    • Player A plays Dust Warheads, Player B plays a card that is countered by Dust Warheads.
    • Player A gains the blocking bonus, he receives the base bonus of the Card AND the bonus effect.
    • Player A +40% kinetic crit chance
    • Player A +40% missile crit chance
    • Player B's card has no effect.





    Situation 3 Both Players Counter

    • Player A plays Dust Warheads, Player B plays a card that is counters Dust Warheads.
    • Player A's card has no effect.
    • Player B's card has no effect.





    [nolabel]/Your/player/you refers tothe side that choose that card.

    Opponent/enemy/they refers to the side that did NOT choose the card.



    So, "+40% missile crit chance" means you get a +40% bonus to critical hit chance for missiles. (I think this is multiplicative, and still capped to 90% Chance to hit/10% chance to hit).

    This mod does nothing to clear up my confusion with offensive/defensive card effects. You changed the word "block" to "trump" then changed the original numbers. Well... being the original numbers were not explained in clear, logical English, what makes you think changing the terminology... and the numbers to boot, will make it any better?



    Whether it's "block", "trump" or whatever... it makes no difference. What's missing is the explanation of exactly WHAT is being blocked and WHO is doing the blocking. I suspect English is not the native language of the person who created the game cards because there's no "grammatical logic" to them. "Block" obviously refers to defense but the card fails to explain WHO'S defense is being affected; this is real problem.



    For example, instead of saying "block 10%" I need something like "enemy defense reduced 10%." Or is it MY defense that's being reduced 10%? Who the heck knows?



    The game cards need to be fixed!

    The devs should just hire you to rewrite all their tooltips. What they have now is almost unintelligible. It reads like it was poorly translated (and I assume that is the case).

    Trump is the right word for sure especially with "cards" at least for people who play Euchre, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Diamonds, and other type of trump based card games. That being said, alot of kids playing CCG's would probably understand counter better.



    So Counter Bonus would work as well.




    It is very unclear unfortunately. I had to start a topic to figure it out. This mod should be built into the game IMHO. Does anyone know if it works with the new 1.0.65 update?

    Well crap is that what the "Block" means I couldn't figure that out... I thought it was a defensive term like it increases your "Block" by 30%.



    if there is room I would change it from "Trump" to "Trump Bonus" That way when you see a card that says "Trumps " it would be more clear that the "Bonus" for "Trumping" is X.

    I used the "trump" keyword because the game currently uses the words "block" and "counter" to mean the same thing. Since the word "trump" already exists as a word that means "card A beats card B", I felt it was best to replace "block" and "counter" with the single word "trump", to be consistent.
