So to keep the story thread easy to read thought we would put discussion here...so hate it love it let me know! Started playing the game the story is going to following first update to story going up after this others to follow soon!

Couple questions for those with more lore knowledge...

1. How exactly did the pilgrims break off? I mean before the game starts the UE doesn't really have more than one planet so not to much for the pilgrims to break off from...considering making it a lesser tech mass driver ship they took over before the humans developed the ability to follow the cosmic strings...so more of a very early scout ship...

2. The UE started on earth or did something happen to Earth and the UE picked up the pieces on a planet colonized by earth?

I don't think the Devs really made any specific notes or will on those matters. But here's my headcanon for what its worth.

1) The Pilgrims broke off by using early pre-string drive starships sometime before 3000 AD (I go for 2200 ish) and went "off the grid" by going to another stellar constellation in a long generational voyage. The damage their leaving causes ends further interstellar travel attempts until FTL is properly developed. The Pilgrims got lucky and found Endless artifacts and Dust to build a new home and fleet to continue their journey then meet a Sophon sublight expedition.

2) In my headcanon, the UE left Earth after a terrible war and settled on what was considered a backup Earth meant for colonization. (Hense the low population and lack of exploitation). They got unlucky and found it was low in minerals and fine soil, and had to adapt.

So yeah, I'm not sure if the backstory will ever be fully told, unless somebody does a novel set in Endless Space.

Hi all -

If you want to read lore, we have tons of it!

To answer your questions, the universe of Endless Space is not based on an Earth reference, like Star Trek or Dune is, but is a "second world" type of universe that does not have links with our real one -- ES also happened "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"... smiley: smile

Interesting read so far, although I have one suggestion to help make it easier to read.

Whenever a new character starts talking, start a new line. It keeps everything from jumbling up into a wall of text, and makes it easier for readers to, well...read, and keep track of what is going on. For example, instead of:

Emperor Constantine the tenth looked over the reports as his daughter, her hair in the newest circular rings beside her head, played in his office. "Have they found the pilgrims homeworld so we can destroy it Daddy?" she suddenly asked looking up from her game. Sighing Constantine answered "though we are looking for them we are not going to destroy them right off honey. They rebelled yes but they killed very few, and there has been enough death in human history" Pouting Elizabeth responded "they rebelled daddy they should be destroyed. Premier Cassius says if we don't make an example of them others will follow and if you don't have the stomach to do so people will think you are weak." Making sure to keep the rising anger he felt out of his voice Constantine questioned his daughter "when did you hear this honey?" "Yesterday daddy" she replied "he was talking with another adviser I didn't know when you left the room briefly"

You could have:

Emperor Constantine the tenth looked over the reports as his daughter, her hair in the newest circular rings beside her head, played in his office.

"Have they found the pilgrims homeworld so we can destroy it Daddy?" she suddenly asked looking up from her game. Constantine sighed as he looked at his daughter.

"Though we are looking for them we are not going to destroy them right off honey. They rebelled yes but they killed very few, and there has been enough death in human history." he answered. When she heard this, Elizabeth pouted, not pleased with it.

"They rebelled daddy they should be destroyed. Premier Cassius says if we don't make an example of them others will follow and if you don't have the stomach to do so people will think you are weak." she said.

"When did you hear this honey?" Constantine questioned her, trying to mask the rising anger in his voice.

"Yesterday daddy" she replied "he was talking with another adviser I didn't know when you left the room briefly."

I edited the second one a bit just to help the dialogue flow a bit better for the example. Now, it's just a suggestion, so feel free to take it or leave it. The rule of thumb I've always gone by is to start a new line when a new characters starts.

I can do that. Books usually don't but then this isn't a book. Thanks for the suggestions and the feedback!

Well, it depends on the author and his or her style. Some do and some don't. If you don't think it's your style to write that way, feel free to ignore me. That's simply my own style and preference, it makes it easier to follow conversations and keep track of who is talking in my opinion. But, well, that is just my opinion.

Oh know I will start doing it not a problem sorry if I came off as not liking the suggestion I do. Any and all feedback as welcome and yours was certainly given constructively. (and like I said this isn't a book so style does need to be different).
