Although I hate to spam the Fan Art Section with my not jaw dropping lore or art, I felt that I had to post the only drawing I hadn't of the Automatons. This is the depiction of the Exile fleet which was the last part of Automaton lore I wanted to include before the contest was finished, but I lost heart and simply didn't post it till now.

After the first great Automaton war was over and the civilization had survived, it had come time to begin restoring society to its norms as they were known before the war. Norms of peace, prosperity, careful expansion, and love of nature. But, as has been known throughout history....war has the power to change any creature, be it flesh and blood, or dust and metal.... Some years after the end of the war, the Automatons were finished construction several massive defense stations, based on their original white dwarf fleet station destroyed in the war. The remaining and active Automaton fleets were being stored in these defense stations for future use in the case of war and for a time things were returning to normal, but soon the effects of brutal war began showing. The majority of Automatons did not directly serve in the war, but those that participated in the final assault on the Splinter faction home world were showing signs of deviating from original Automaton beliefs. During the brutal leveling of the human cities on the planet's surface, a part of the Automatons had changed, their Dust powered thoughts and feelings evolved to compensate for the horror of war and ultimately changed them to be separate from the rest of their species. These Automatons could not return to their simple lives of raising plants and living in a peaceful state....they could not live in their own home... And so, the Automaton council of elders, the original set of machines constructed by their Reyan masters, were called by their people to make a decision on the fate of these altered Automatons. The Elders are very rarely called, as they are sacred among st the Automatons and their purpose is left to themselves, their wisdom to be called upon only in matters which concern the fate of the species and their dead masters. The Elders convened from the largest and greatest of the Platform ships orbiting the home world, and for days they deliberated on the fate of their fellow Automatons.

Finally they had made their decision, the Elders announced to the whole of the Automaton civilization simultaneously, that the altered Automatons would be exiled into space, with special ships built for them. The ships would be constructed as massive self sustained fortresses, the largest ships ever built, using blueprints the Elders provided from their vast amounts of difference engines. The first ship constructed was christened, the EXILE, the exiled Automatons boarded it preparing everything for their departure as the rest of the fleet of ships was built. After several years, the fleet of 40 ships was completed and raised into space by its dust engines, with the exiled Automatons on board. They would all be deactivated and placed into sleep within the ships internal difference engines until the time came when these warriors were needed by the rest of their people, but until that time came, they would sail the vast depths of space alone.... This was the fate of several million Automatons, as war had changed them forever and they were forced to drift for tens of years, but now the long waited signal had come, and the massive ships dust engines activated, turning the ships and putting them on a course for the Home World, for the Automatons had discovered their other neighbors......

And that is the story that brought the Automatons into the larger galaxy, with the Sophons, Sowers, Horatio, UE, Pilgrims, Amoeba, and Hissho.

That is unfortunate! :C

Even just a Reskin of something else would be better than nothing!

Hey, those ships look great! smiley: biggrin

I'm sorry to hear that they won't be getting their own shipset, but that ship does look nice, even if just a concept.

Thing is, i'm currently recruting an artist(s) for a mod i have in progress, and that ships looks like it could suit one of our factions. Would you mind joining up with us, even if just for concepts? I'd have another guy do the models and all that, ofcourse. smiley: smile

Well, we currently aren't planning on a lot of stuff, but we do have atleast 5 factions set up for our mod (out of the total 15 smiley: smile) and that ship-art you where doing here (is that a BS?) would fit perfectly for one faction we have planned, namely the Animus Megacorp inc. If you could continue in same art-style for the rest of the ships (Corvette, Destroyer, Cruiser, Dreadnought) we'd have our first concepts for the faction. You can add me on steam if you wish to further discuss this (Upgradecap)

As always, keep that quality up! smiley: biggrin

Quick question: What is the essential difference between the sowers and the automatons in terms of behavior? As in, they both are nature loving robots, right?

You misunderstand the Sowers lol, they are actually just a race that prepares planets with industry and infrastructure to be inhabited by the Endless when they return. Also the Automatons are a clockwork race while the Sowers are more of a cyberpunk race.
