Hey all!

As we told you last week, we’re having a new Humankind OpenDev Scenario for everybody* who has pre-purchased the game on Steam! From now until December 28th at 16:00 CET, you can try the game out yourself and let us know what you think.

At more than 100 turns, facing off against 7 other civilizations from the Neolithic to the end of the Early Modern Era, this is the biggest chunk of gameplay we’ve shared with you so far. And as always in OpenDev, we look forward to hearing your feedback about your experience with the game.

So how can you play the Humankind Lucy OpenDev? Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Make sure that HUMANKIND™ is in your Steam library.
    1. If you have pre-purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam, it should be there already
    2. If you have purchased a Steam key from another retailer, you must Redeem the key on Steam first before proceeding to the next step
  2. Visit GAMES2GETHER
    1. If you already have an account, go ahead and login
    2. If you do not have an account, please create one
  3. Steam connect your G2G account on the rewards page here. If you have already connected your account in the past, you may need to re-sync
  4. Click on the “Lucy OpenDev” reward and hit Redeem.
  5. Go back to your Steam library, and Humankind – OpenDev should appear there automatically

Note: During events like the OpenDev, Games2Gether often experiences periods of intense traffic. If you are having any issues redeeming rewards, syncing accounts, or logging in, then please try again a bit later.

While you wait for it to download, feel free to watch our quick Getting Started video before you dive in:

In this OpenDev scenario, you will be playing as Lucy Adam, star of our recent trailer, but in the full game, you will get to customize your own avatar and share it with your friends. Not just their appearance, but their behavior as an AI opponent as well! You can learn more about that in our Feature Focus on it soon. We’ve also created some special avatars for some of our favorite twitch streamers that you can unlock as AI opponents to play against in Humankind by watching their streams. If you watch enough of their streams, or by other participating streamers, you can even get free access to the Lucy OpenDev!

Eager to get your hands on these cool Avatars or the Lucy OpenDev? Just follow these simple steps to prepare for the Twitch drops:

  1. Make sure you have a Twitch account
  2. Login to your Games2Gether Account (or create one if you need to)
  3. Go to your "Profile" page, and from there to your "Account Settings"
  4. On this page, you can see a button to Link your Twitch account.
  5. After you click this button, you will be prompted to log into twitch and confirm the link
  6. You should be set now. Go and enjoy some HUMANKIND™ streams!

You should get the Streamer Avatars after watching half an hour of their streams. For the LucyOpenDev, you'll have to show a bit more endurance, and watch a total of three hours across any of the participating streamers. Once you have watched enough to gain access, the Lucy OpenDev reward will appear in your Games2Gether Rewards page, and you can redeem it as described above.

We hope you'll have fun with the Lucy OpenDev!

* The Lucy OpenDev is available only in English and only on PC.

Redo the Sync.  Then refresh the page and hit Rewards menu.  It may take a few minutes/retrys

I've got the pre-purchased game in my library, and i've followed through the steps to sync. But i can't find the OpenDev rewards anywhere. I've tried refreshing, restarting the computer and clearing up my cache and cookies, still nothing.

Aight, i've solved the issue. I gotta sync my account twice it seems. Only then did it appear on the rewards page

I see it in steam, but when I click on the open dev 'game' it has a 'purchase' button and pressing that just brings me to the Lucy Open Dev 'store' screen where i can only write a review.  I'll keep trying to refresh the sync on G2G etc, but if there's anything else to try, please let me know.

Update: I uninstalled what had populated in Steam, then refreshed G2G link to Steam again...and re-redeemed the Open Dev and that worked.  it now is letting me install the content.

So how are we meant to unlock Spiff's persona given that it's impossible to get Twitch drops on his channel as he never actually streams on Twitch?

I wish it was endless mode until early era instead of just 150 turns, cant explore that much and cant annihilate many enemies haha

Failed to redeem. The "redeem it on steam" is freshing after I authorized SEGA to redeem game in my steam account, but nothing happens then.

I tried several times and still struck in this stage.

I am having this same problem. Click on 'Redeem on STEAM'. That takes me to a page where STEAM asks if I grant SEGA permission. I accept the request for permission. Then it thinks a moment and fails back to the 'Redeem on STEAM' page with nothing more than 'An error has occurred. If the error persists please yada yada yada...'

There were some hiccups trying to redeem it, but I got it now, and it looks fantastic.

Please try to force refresh the reward page, you should see something like this :

That was the key! -__________-

Feedback on your webpage:
Through a lot of advertisements and other things do you not know where to go. It took me a long time to find and add the game under my "Rewards".

Instead of simply including a direct link (as suggested by the REST standard) in the news, you are redirect people back and forth, from one window to the next (I think there were 4 windows/tabs with many clicks). Well, modern world, huh? From a web development lecturer's point of view, that's just cruel.

But Luzy is definitely good stuff! Thank you very much!

Do you have to have preordered and watch 3 hours worth of streams to get the opendev?

At first I had the same issue that the redeem function was not working, neither the steam re-sync. After rage hitting Enter at the "redeem it on steam" page, forcing some re-fresh it works for me and after restart of Steam I am downloading it now and super excited to get into the game!

So force re-fresh at the redeem page, with a fresh linked steam account was working for me.

I cannot play it however because my mouse pointer goes straight to the top left hand corner of the screen when the game is launched and won't move back.

Any suggestions on how to fix this greatly appreciated.

I have heard from some people that the game may detect other gaming peripherals (Gamepads, HOTAS, etc.) and that may unintentionally move the mouse. If you have any peripherals plugged in, try unplugging them. (If not, we'll have to dig deeper.)

I Managed to get the game into my steam library. Thats when it told me that it can't run on mac since its a 32-bit application.

It's actually a 64-bit application, but our Mac port is unfortunately not stable enough to play yet. My apologies to all the Mac users that our communication was not clearer on this, and that the Lucy OpenDev page mistakenly mirrored the MacOS system requirements from the main game app even though it is not available. If there is a future OpenDev opportunity with a stable Mac build, we will be sure to clearly call out that it is available on Mac as well.

Regarding those streamer skins, does one need to watch 30m of each of those streamers, or does it need to be 30m of only one, to unlock the whole thing?

The Streamer Avatars are unlocked by watching 30 minutes on their own stream. For the Luc OpenDev Access, you have to watch 3 hours across any of the participating streamers listed in the How To thread.

Hey, where can I submit my problem with game? I've reached turn 128 and game started to stutter and stop responding, thankfully I managed to save it before total freeze.

We've got a Bug Reports forum for the Lucy OpenDev.

Same problem here. Pre-purches, sync'd, found the redeem button but Sega account fails to link with Steam. I also uninstalled to old opendev steam title, retried, but no luck.

Lucy was marked as "hidden" on Steam - I searched "Lucy" in the search bar above my list of games in my Steam library and it popped right up! I hope this helps someone out there. Played through the Neolithic age last night and the game looks wonderful so far!

I watched BurkeBlack for 3 hours, got the drop for lucy. Linked my accounts and it says its in my steam library but its not.

Edit: Now it appears, had to wait like 10 plus mins. Its under "lucy humankind". So just give it time and search Lucy and it should pop up if the site says its been added to your steam. It might be under your hidden games as some have said, wasn't for me.
