Next Update Preview - Vauban Beta

We know many of you have been eagerly waiting for more news about Humankind, and today it's finally time to tell you about what's coming next.

 

The next update, named the Vauban update, will be released on April 26th and will include several quality-of-life improvements based on ideas suggested by our players, alongside further bugfixes and performance optimization. Let’s take a look at some of the key elements: 

 

  • Demand/Renounce All Buttons: For your convenience we have added new “Renounce All” and “Demand All” buttons on the Crisis tab of the Diplomacy screen to deal with all grievances at once. It’s never been so easy to forgive and forget... or worse. 
  • Auto-resolve Improvements: We’ve added a preview of the damage your units will take when you hover your cursor over the auto-resolve button. Additionally, we’ve made some small changes to the auto-resolve formula to better reflect army compositions and terrain.

  • Steam Workshop: While we originally opted for mod.io as a solution that works across multiple storefronts, we have seen many requests from Steam users to implement Steam Workshop support. With the Vauban update, you can get your mods from either Mod.io or the Steam Workshop as you prefer, and the modding tools will be updated to allow you to upload mods directly to either. However, please keep in mind that this will not be available during the beta. 
  • AI Improvements: We’ve worked on how the AI manages Faith, Influence, and early expansion. They should compete better with you now.

  • Hôtel de Ville de Bruxelles: The new Cultural Wonder unlocked in the Amplified 2023 Community Challenge is available now. 
  • Cultural Wonder Improvements: We know players would often place Cultural Wonders far outside their cities to take advantage of their exploitations. With the Vauban update, we’re adding adjacency bonuses to many wonders to encourage you to incorporate them into your city planning. Additionally, wonders are now cheaper to claim, and you can even renounce your claim if you change your mind about a wonder.

In addition to these major improvements, the Vauban update includes many other Quality of Life additions (some inspired by ideas and feedback from the community) and bugfixes. For example, we’ve added pre-game settings for territory size and how much information the Fame leaderboard shows, added a kill count on units, and placing Cultural Wonders now shows you a preview of the yields. We’ve also adjusted the trigger conditions of many rare events to make it more likely for you to see events you have not seen before. Finally, we’ve also worked on optimization, so the game should run better on lower spec hardware now. 

 

And the best news: You can already try this update right now on Steam! Just right-click the game in your library to access the properties, go to the betas tab, and select the update_preview branch. However, you may encounter some bugs; please check the Known Issues before reporting them.

Happy to see more native support outside of mod.io.  Never really was a fan of needing a separate account for that.

Oh damn, some of those wonders got spiced up by a lot, I still will be building them when they'll look the best, tho.

Does others can build the new wonders? I can´t it doesn't show me to activate it and even on game doesn't appear the hotel of brusselles. Can anybody anser me please.

I don't see the hotel wonder too. The rest wonders seem to be a part of the new paid DLC called "Para Bellum".

I've played 30 turns. I see new wonder changes. Encyclopedia is not up to date. I hope I will see the Hotel in the late game.

I would like to give feedback on some UI issues regarding the updated beta, firstly in the luxury build preview I cannot get information on the capacity income generated by building luxury items (no luxury effects are shown).

Secondly I think the new unknown strategic resource UI is easily confused with the horse-strategic resource UI, I think the old version with the question mark was just fine

Feedback Post Wonders :


- Temple of Artemis Noice

-Stonehenge Noice

-Statue of Zeus Noice

- Collosus of Rhodes Really Noice

-Mausoleum is Ok

- Zion Nice

-Pyramid of sun , worse than farmer maybe +50% food or something to adjacent food quarter would be nice

- Forbiden city yeah !

- Todai-ji still feels weak as religion geopolitics isn't that much ,  new bonuses nice , but maybe reduce strength of other religion instead
- Notre dame , nice not best but in Medieval you could struggle with science , more spicy one +0.1 on adjacent research per faith on wonder
- Great Mosque , yeah why not
- Tokapi why not

- St Basil  , fits in 

- Saint Mary / Versaille bad  You don't have usually that much commons next to each other because they don't have synergy, maybe replace it with EQ and buff adjacency 
- Effeil tower WHY x )  you're basically sacrificing like 30+ science for 25 industry why not +1 industry per pop in this city per adjacent research ( could buff it a Effeil tower not that strong )
- Big ben same WHY + meh ? x) +8 science late game IIRC is same as a quarter so , same for effeil with market , maybe 1. +1 science/researcher per market 2. +10 science per adjacent quarter if adjencent to city place
- Empire state building Same you loose -22 gold over regular market , maybe buff it or get idk +1Money per trade road on this territory per adjacent market
-Maracana in the theme but same for versaille and saint mary , maybe a vanilla buff of commons ( give it some gameplay utility ) would be nice
- Congress of humankind Makes sense Nice

Some feedback after a solid game with the beta:

- Good: Noticed on Huge territory settings, the map feels less crowded by districts, even in late game. This is a good step forward, but again, too many districts late game!

- Good: Brazilian Special unit is finally a stealth unit.

- Good: Eligible map tiles highlight for projects like nuclear tests, etc

- Good: AI actually takes some time to clear ruins!

- Bad: AI doesn't seem to use bombardment as much as they probably should. They would have tons of air units and tons of artillery, but almost never use the "bombard" ability in battle or in general.

- Good: AI seems to build airbases in strategic areas (border territories, instead of inland where range would be an issue.

- Bad: AI seems to never pick the Congress of HK headquarters wonder. Even if its the only one available.

- Bad: Independent Peoples seem to spend the whole game spamming districts, eventually encompassing the whole territory.

- Bad: Independent Peoples are not building any infrastructure .

And my feedback.


I didn’t have Hotel de Ville wonder during my gameplay.


Bad:

- Air Strike is still broken. Especially when your carrier got stuck, when a battlefield is extended, comparing to what UI suggested before starting battle.


Annoying:

- I don’t see territory names on map when I force surrender. Neither on surrender view nor global view, nor administrative center tooltip. Intelligence view is a only way. I have to swich between surrender panel and intelligence view during capitulation.

- I don’t see continent names anywhere.

- Missing resources details on map and on the resource panel.

- I don’t like research panel position and no progress indicator (since previous dlc).
