Maybe it was a mistake to not let someone else, like Brown, get the Lighthouse.  Because Brown never went to the New World and accordingly never developed more resources to trade for.  Most just stagnated in Medieval and so didn't even develop the saltpetre on their own continents never mind travel over the oceans.  Yellow finally advanced to Early Modern and then Industrial but it wasn't until then, like turn 180, that Yellow finally made a move to the new continent and even then was slow to develop resources.  Trade income didn't really go much of anywhere after Naval Air Strategy was researched around turn 170.
