Relieving an allies sieged city

What am I missing here? I'm allied with Purple (have open borders), who is being besieged by Orange, which I am also at war with. I can't enter the siege zone at all. Is there a way to reinforce an ally, or do I have to sit there and wait, while my superior force watches my allies city burn?

The latter unfortunately, because currently there are no three+ player battles. Possibly none in game at all.

Thanks. Though I was really hoping I was just missing something.

It makes no sense at all, and seems poorly implemented.

I want to bump this, I'm interested in other people's opinions here.

This just feels like terrible strategic gameplay to me. Giving an invading army total immunity to the defender's ally is nonsensical (in game and historically). It diminishes the usefulness of having an ally during war.

Going back to the picture, another second minor gripe with the situation is that some of the besieged tiles are in my territory. I can't even move around parts of my own land. When besieging a city the battlefield shouldn't be in tiles outside of that zone.

Yeah it is super dumb. If they can't handle the AI, just put the allied AI's under your control as soon as you get into the battle.

It seems like this unfortunately works both ways: if your city is captured by an enemy AI and an ally besieges it, you have no way to take back your own city with your own army.

I made this post some months ago, but unfortunately still feel like siege mechanics are the biggest problem of the game's combat system.

If there is any hope of possibly having the ability to relieve besieged allies, or reinforce besieging ones, it should be the focus for an entire expansion for the game.

One solution to avoid 3 party battles is that the allied troops that join the batte become temporary controlled by the allied player that became first involved in the battle.

This seems like a reasonable fix if making three-empire combat would be too much work to code.  I want to be able to support my allies in combat and liberate their cities for them!

If you want to add input you can post it in this thread.
