Hello, I try to understand the consequences of cultural conversion.

I built an outoput. Immediately the game told me AI would convert it in 5 turns. But then seemingly nothing happend. I was still able to attach it and grow it into a city.

So what are the consequences of cultural conversion?

Bumping because I'd really love to know this too, there's an entire cultural influence map you can open from the bottom left that tells you what % cultures are represented but gives no indication to what that actually causes. The only thing I've seen so far is that your city can get technologies of the culture-dominant neighbour via osmosis, but that would mean I get all the benefits and no downsides, and the neighbour gets no benefits at all

For both cultural conversion and religious conversion, the benefit is you get a grievance. If someone converts your city, they will get a grievance on you "oppressing my people" Then they can go to war to take it. Other than that, I don't think there are any downsides.

If you do it to them, you also get the grievance, so it's easy to go to war. Wait until it converts, demand they give you the city, voila (war or free city).

In addition to the grievance, being under influence can trigger Osmosis event, which can give you science boost or force you to adopt a civic of the influencer, refusing giving huge stability penalty
