My current state religion has no followers plus the other religion got better tenets, so I'm interested in just conceding and switching to the religion literally every other culture is following. The encyclopedia says this switch should be possible, but doesn't explain how. I can't find any button for that anywhere: faith overview, tenets screen, city screen, diplomacy screen. Nothing. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!

It should be here, but to change it you need a certain percentage of your population to follow that religion you want to change to.

Thanks for the screenshot, that helps narrow it down. Here is what it looks like for me:

100% of my people follow Babylonian Polytheism, which I would like to make the state religion and just leave my religion to die off in peace. Do you know is it an issue that I have holy sites, do I need a specific civic, or anything like that?

You can also rename or pick a special symbol (from Shinto Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, etc.) when you change your tenets.

Someone found that: Clicking the religion button while having another religion already influencing your empire will allow you to press ctrl + f + 5 in order to bring up the list of religions to change into.

So you're unable to change the name of your religion if your empire isn't being influenced by a foreign religion?

No, he wrote the shortcut for changing your state religion to another.

Your question is something else.

Isn't renaming done through the "change state religion" tab under religion? "Cannot be accessed because there are no other Religions you may be converted to that you know of."

Changing your state religion is completely different than just giving it a different name for flavor. Whenever you update tenants, when you pick the tenant but before you confirm it you can change your religion's building and name. It's easy to miss since the part of the screen that changes is NOT the part of the screen you are looking at.

But you can also change just the name of your religion at any time by clicking the rename icon on the religion screen. The rename button is [ A_ ] or something like that. It doesn't scream "rename my religion" to me either, but it's there and you can do it whenever. I like to pick the name when I get my first tenant so that the name goes with the building I picked.

That way you aren't making a stone circle in the contemporary era -- but something more reasonable.
