What does the game pace change? Is it just the amount of turns and era stars needed?

In Civ when you set the game to a lower speed it also takes more production and gold to build stuff.

I want to enjoy the eras longer, but without it also taking me more industry and money to build stuff.

From what I can tell it's the former like Civ.

What doesn't change is unit speed. So basically you have more time to explore and fight.

You might have to wait for some mods.

If the construction costs, growth speed, era star requirements, etc did not scale with game speed, it would be an even bigger mess than it currently is.  I agree the pacing needs work, but you definitely don't want to play a game where ages pass at a slower speed and nothing else does.

Also, the way HUMANKIND works, era advancement is no longer tied to Research specifically.

If you can build fast, you can advance fast (due to the Builder star affinity, for example).
