Talking about like for the different army caps and Eras.

EX: When you have a 4 army cap do you usually put 2 swordsmen, a cav and a ranged? Do you do full armies of a single type and just run with them together ? Curious what kinds of stuff everyone is running with. 

without having to much wars fought, and to keep it restricted to pre gunpowder ( mostly since i just have progressed towards the industrial era ) i do balance out most armies in the way you suggested. atm i also field a couple of pure cavalry armies mainly because their speed enables them to cross my empire quite fast. During war i combined a couple of those armies which all in all worked quite well. playing even against a single unit manually does seem preferable after the first few era's if you enjoy your veterancy
