I sorta figured that was the case cause some of those abilities are a bit strong.  Honestly I sorta like it gives me the ability to make a empire thats fun to play against not just stupidly over powered.

Nobody can play as any AI persona - when you start a game, your personal Avatar only has its specific appearance and not AI (as you are the one playing). However you can play against other AI Personas, with their chosen traits, strengths and quirks.

If you chose a preset AI, that has no influence on the legacy traits it gets from each culture. The strengths that the AI has are an additional benefit to any legacy traits they may receive during gameplay.

Loved Endless Space (especially 2, though I miss the Harmony) and Endless Legend, and just picked up Humankind.  My first major frustration was that I had to unlock Archetypes/Strengths/Biases in order to select them, but even worse than that was the realization that none of them actually did anything for me.  I honestly just don't understand the point of the Persona option, besides the obvious appearance customization, because I have to play and play to open up new features that I can't even use.  Makes no damn sense, at least in my opinion.  Yes, every new age you can choose a new culture if needed, but that's literally the limit of customization.  I get that this is a different game, but I just don't understand how you can go from huge lists of pros/cons allowing virtually unlimited customization and then dumb it down to seven choices spread out over a game (which you effectively have to fight/rush for).  Just doesn't feel like I'm actually able to make my culture stand out in any meaningful way.
