Video going over the map editor:  Map Maker Tutorial w/ William Dyce | HUMANKIND - Twitch  At 26:53 a viewer asks a question "Will premade maps ship with the game" This is the LEAD DESIGNER and another guy with him who made the game - and they both answer "I don't know" I was shocked when I saw this..... anyone working on the game should be able to answer this question. Now I have my question answered how the game went live with oil not spawning answered.

You are the lead designer... how the hell do you not know the answer to a basic question like this? I can assure you of one thing.... if I was lead designer of a game (or anything) you couldn't ask a single question about what is in the product I couldn't answer. I mean you MADE the game, how do you not know? That is like.... I can't even think up a comparison.... Keep in mind this video was made like 3 days before the game released... not when it was months out. How do you MAKE the game and not know? Can anyone explain this to me? 

If I was making the game, right off the top of my head, I would be able to tell you the following: What map sizes were, how many units were in the game, and what there combat and moves were, (plus or minus 5) How many techs (plus or minus 5) What the different difficulty settings did, how many cultures were in the game and what their bonuses were, what resources were in the game (might miss a few at most) and any and all basic workings of the game. 

I have not made a game, but I have 100s and 100s of hours modding games, from Civ - Stellaris - Fallout - Skyrim. I can tell you right now, when I was working on those mods I could tell you anything you wanted to know about those games. I can tell you right now I'd constantly be over the shoulder of everyone working on my game. I don't know, I had to share this and ask how this is possible. Am I ignorant? Am I crazy? What does a lead game developer do then? This blew my mind. 

Lead Designer != Lead Producer. The Lead Designer can not tell you what is currently in the game most of the time, he can tell you how the game should work or what is being prepared in the future.

Also keep in mind that everything has to pass through QA as well, including maps and scenarios (for those coming from Civ 5 and 6). So "I do not know" is a pretty valid answer as there are at least two other people who need to approve that content before it makes it in game.

It is one thing being a sole modder but a completely different thing working as part of a larger team.
