43 turns into a 150 turn game, yet not a single civic available?

So I did a 300 turn game the other day, and I unlocked civics in it just fine. However, I'm doing a 150 turn game now, Nation difficulty, Huge map size and 8 other Empires. I checked the Wiki, and it says the first civics should unlock when I reach a total of 8 combined population in the Ancient era, yet when I had a total of 12 population when on my last Ancient turn, I still hadn't unlocked any civics. Am I doing something wrong?

Many civic events require you to have interaction with other cultures, which lore wise from how I understand it then enables you to differentiate between different ideas.

I'm allied with 5 other civilizations, is that not enough? I am trading with pretty much everyone, too. My "influence bubble" also covers most of one of the two continents in my game, and it's now turn 55 without a single civic event popping up for me.

Sorry you made it sound like you were possibly isolated. I got nothing then.

Ahh, sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I appreciate that you're trying to help.

Hey there,

At the moment the Civics are more scarce than we expected; I'm currently taking a look at them to see how we could loosen them a bit.

Hi there !

We have tried to reproduce this bug on our side but without any success sadly.

So if you have a game where you have :

  1. Game speed greater than blitz
  2. a city with >= 5 pop
  3. you have unlocked no civics or if after the first civics ( "Founding myths") no others civics unfrozen ( like "Army composition", "Leadership", "Religious rite")

Can you post your saves here ( with autosaves too) so that I can inspect them

It will be a great help :)

Hello! I did finally manage to unlock my first civics in this save at turn 64, near the end of medieval. The ones I unlocked were Founding Myths and Legitimacy. At that point, I had 79 total population and a tier 3 religion. Here are a bunch of auto-saves, with the civics unlocking on auto-save 520, which is turn 64 in this game:

auto-save 521.ctr

auto-save 520.ctr

auto-save 519.ctr

auto-save 518.ctr

auto-save 517.ctr

auto-save 516.ctr

auto-save 515.ctr

auto-save 514.ctr

I posted about this in the bug reports; you're not alone friend !

So far i can't really tell from what it's coming but;

- As long as you don't unlock the first 2 civics you don't get the other ones

- Seems like unlocking the first 2 can be bugged in some way. Only a hypothesis on my part but it looks like sometimes, your capital isn't considered at all by the game in the calcul of pop needed. Might be because the settlement was built in Neolithic, or still "building" during the transition, idk.

- Could also be that meeting the requirements to unlock another civic than the first two "blocks" the unlock of any civic at all.

I can confirm that, in the game I had this issue with, my outpost took 2-3 more turns post-Neolithic to finish and be upgrade-able into a city (Endless pacing), so it may be that it's expecting a finished outpost on the turn of conversion or a full city one turn afterwards or something, as Kador mentioned.

Yep - i actually just tried to be 100% sure that the outpost was over before going up to Ancient Era ( too bad, was first to get up i guess ^^ ) and Civics seem to work as intended.

So it definetly looks like it's something along the line of ;

" If the outpost isn't finished before the Ancient Era, it's not considered in the calcul for Civics to unlock ".

Thank you all for the files you've provided.

We're investigating a fix for the issue, and if it is successful, it will be included in an upcoming patch. However, it will most likely not make it into the next patch, as that patch is already locked for testing.

Maybe a short term solution would be to enable with debugging tool to trigger civics
