Win a game without constructing a single military Unit, Scouts aside. That is my goal.

Problem: I have just assimilated a tribe into mine, thus, their army is now mine. But I did not construct their army units. Can I still successfully complete this achievement?

Yes. assimilated armies don't count against you since you didn't build them. I got the achievement while assimilating plenty of independents. It's actually a really good way to have a standing army to deter invasion from other nations. I will mention though  said armies are bugged and cant embark  to go to another continent

Also upgrading and getting reinforcements from events did not invalidate the achievement for me.

It took several trials for me to get that, and luck seems to play a rather big part for being successful. The game that I've won was a walk in the park, however, not a single war declared on me -  but it was also very boring, compared to the aborted runs in which I slowly ran out of units to fight defensive wars/ransacking IPs.

What I've done to make it easier to complete the challenge is create a blitz tiny and very easy difficulty. 2 opponents I have on the map. It is so easy. will probably get it in couple of hours

I played a game by not building a single unit.

I got units from exploring curiosities and by assimilating independent cities.

But the achievement didn't unlock. IDK

I did upgrade my units and I did go to war.

Is the declaration of war the reason the achievement didn't unlock?

You are hardly peaceful if you are declaring war.

I think this might be key (though hidden requirement).

Achievement unlocked yesterday playing a small islands/continents map. This time I did not declare war on anyone. Only war on Independent People (for military stars).

I believe that you are correct.

Hi, this is a bit of a necro, but it's still the first Google search link so I am posting it here.

Declaring war on the enemy NPC is not the key. At least not the only one. I just suffered a horribly boring game without ever declaring war and I didn't get the achievement.

What I did was attack neutral units and I also believe neutral cities. I also upgraded the scouts and the units I've received, when I culturally absorbed neutral cities.

@Edward8D

Try this, which should take like 20 turns:

- 1v1 tiny map vs Hamlet AI.

- Stay in nomadic era to get lots of scouts, and then use the scouts to conquer opponent as soon as you fight the enemy.

Notes:

- Doesn't work with Harappans (whose runners are considered non-scout units).

- Works best with Hittites who faction bonus give +1 combat strength to the scouts.

I have been wondering if the Militarist affinity's ability counts as constructing military units. If not, you could get a peacemonger run via relying on Militia (which are actually quite good in Districts, especially after Conscripts). Being able to heal Militia for free after every fight in your own territory is quite powerful.

It's always a disaster when the achievement conditions are not clearly described, or aren't implemented as described.

Is this allowed/ is that allowed?

From what I'm reading here the disqualifying factor is OWNING any units beside scouts. (while renting is OK, going to war is OK)

But then what about units from curiosities, do those invalidate the run as well?

Instead of being a fun challenge it turns into a google search followed by cheese.

Well, the truth of the matter is, most challenges in 4x games are earned by cheesing, especially for those who want to be efficient about getting them.

Now, everyone has a different perspective, but I personally tend to view achievements as a test of intelligence and planning; "how can I quickly and efficiently earn them?"

Or what, to earn "An Endless Civilization", are you going to go through 6 eras at humankind difficulty using an ancient era faction? (Well, it's actually possible with all the other exploits you can take advantage of). Nope, you might as well strategize, do a blitz game with 2 opponents on a tiny map as Macedonians, lock both opponents down into a single territory (can declare war on them to get some free military stars, or else liberate your own cities that you attack for militarist stars), and then star up like a madman to the final era and finish the game in 40 turns.

But this challenge's description was pretty straightforward.

Peacemonger: Win a game without constructing a single military Unit, Scouts aside.

- Renting is not constructing.

- Getting free units is not constructing

- Upgrading units is not constructing.

- I believe militarist home guards are considered constructing (but not sure - never tested that).

- Despite the name of the achievement, the description say nothing about declaring war :)

I managed to get the achievement today.

First try failed.

Harappans? Don't know.

Warriors from curiosity? Don't know.

I can confirm declaring formal or surprise war is OK.

I can confirm buying a TRIBE unit in the neolithic era from an outpost in NOT OK. (this is why first try failed)

I also managed to get Spartan (win with 1 city) even though I won the game by claiming their last city (since I didn't have enough points to vassalize).

Another Necro-post because this showed up on google.

"Win a game without constructing a single military Unit, Scouts aside."

I think the ruling for Settlers should be rewritten so that you can still create Settlers for the achievement

Settlers are weak and allow you to make cities which is a peaceful action.

Played a full game on normal speed where the only unit I created settlers (Which I think shouldn't be classed as a military unit). Finished the game with 0 kill count, didn't declare any wars, and didn't ransack anything.

I agree about the settlers.  I don't consider them a military unit, even though they technically are one.

Reading this, I wish I was using the forums when I got this achievement.  I stayed in the Neolithic age for a long time, just building up a large army of what would become scouts when I switched eras.  I never upgraded them because I didn't know if that would work for the achievement.  Made it to the end of the Contemporary era, winning by fame.  Killed 363 units, just like a good peacemonger.  But I could have had a much easier time of it had I read the earlier tips in the thread before attempting it.
