The first 2 eras feel amazing. Charriot warfare in the bronze age, fighting the persians with my hoplites taking advantages of the ground, crushing the damn huns with my legions: those are the things that made me love this game. In the middle ages it's still enjoyable, hiding behind walls with my longbowmen while the mongols are raiding, or stomp on them with my teutonic knights. And then the rush for the new world in early modern era (unless you "cheat" with the norsemen) provides me with new challenges. So far so good.
But when it should shine the most, in the late game, Humankind becomes kind of flat. The AI stops improving his units, war becomes super easy. If I survive the first 2 eras (which is tricky), and am in a decent spot for the next 2, late game for me is just about snowballing. I throw missiles at pikemen or tanks at paesants, all the excitment of previous conflict is gone.
Pollution is brainless, events are unimpactful because the modifiers they provide are the same for the early game, AI becomes incompetent, civics, which can be game changer early on, are useless as well.
Don't get me wrong, Humankind is Amazing from turn 1 to 400, but if for the first 3/4 eras i can give a mark of 9/10, for late game the mark is 6/10 (and I'm being generous).
I could see and feel that industrial and contemporary eras have been rushed before release and still need a lot of work. I guess that's how the industry works nowdays.
On a positive note, if this is how the unfinished product fells like, I'm scared at how good it can get in a year or so.

There are a lot of mechanics that need to be looked at and improved to make them relevant in mid- lategame, just one example: influence is extremely important in the early game, and basically you "can't have enough", which makes it very exciting to accumulate and hard in deciding what you should spend it on, which is a lot of fun! But in the lategame I'm sitting on 250k+ influence with nothing to spend it on, and basically that yield becomes meaningless. I really hope some DLCs / expansions will bring some more utility to it, even until the end.
why cant it be good now? like when I bought it? why does it need another year for them to "finish"/"fix" it? is this a small studio? ..no. is it their first game? ..no. game of this type? ..no.
Endless legend is one of my favorite games so why does this feel like a step backward in so many ways?
So many bugs and glitches, (pathing, AI, battles, balance, mechanics, UI, achievements.. where do i stop?) so many broken or hung games, So much research on workarounds to X glitch only to hit A N other Y bug. Clearly however their marketing/hype team are AAA rated, a pity that they didn't give more budget and time to where it mattered the most. On the game itself! Don't tell me that NONE of this was caught at open dev? some of these glitches are soo bad I don't know how it even got past alpha unnoticed. what the actual !?!
I suppose that a bad game has to build an audience whereas a good one will just have one come to it.
All the glitz on this games2gether nonsense isn't worth diddly squat if this is what they produce with it. I'm fed up, frustrated and well and truly fecked off; they traded on past laurels and dialed one in remotely from the land of CBA. This leaves me with a distinctly bad taste of EA shenanigans in the mouth; worse at least with EA you know what your dealing with and should be wise enough to brace for impact. I'm disappointed with the game, the developer and mostly myself for expecting better.
I take it from the tone of the above that I'm a good bit older than yourself and probably most people in here, so just a word to the wise going forward; don't make excuses for bad behavior in any part of life. They don't need you to cover for them, they don't need the help. Better to call it what it is, a shameful disgrace.

Relax haha. I understand if this is not the game you were expecting, but it's plenty of fun for others. Why are you even posting in this forum if you hate it so much. I played Endless Legend on release and it was a hot mess. Any ambitious game is. Great games become great because developers try new things and iterate over time.

I didn't make any excuses for anyone.
I've just shared my thoughts on the current state of the game. 8/10 game mainly thanks to the early/middle game experience.
I've also acknowleged that the video game industry works this way now, and that's a fact whether you like it or not (and i don't). I'm old enough to remember how games used to be complete on release date, before steam and digital copies. But i guess that cd are the past, and you cannot stop progress.
Again, on the bright side, even though this game is far from being finished, it is one of the most fun i've ever played, let's enjoy it hoping for improvements that are surely on the way.

If good games have audiences come to them, then how come games like Rain World and Prey (2017) have such small audiences? Personal biases and actual quality of these games aside, neither had much marketing behind them so, even if their respective audiences think they're amazing games, they don't receive nearly as much attention as games with debatably less substance or quality to them like Death Stranding or Cyberpunk 2077.
Marketing is undeniably a key component of success for games, so it makes sense for developers to invest into as much marketing as they can afford to without hampering the development of their product. However, that's a delicate balance that I'm not sure if I've ever seen a game and its devs perfect in the modern industry.
That said, the reason HK was released in the state it's in is most likely because SEGA wanted it released when it was released to suit their own agenda. I'm not trying to make excuses for game developers delivering disappointing products here, but it's almost certainly a lot harder for developers to refine and polish games under the crunch of an ambitious deadline set by their higher-ups that the developers themselves have little or no control over - a lot like what happened with CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk. I'm rather disappointed with the current state of HK myself, but I'm still enjoying it for what it is and I'm still hopeful that Amplitude will be able to iron out all of its issues in time.
