It seems i never get attacked as long as i don't refuse the AI players ridiculous demands. The downside of this is that the AI player stays at 100% war support the entire game and I cant create any new trade or treaties with them because of the un-ending crisis that lasts 5000 years from the ancient era to the end of the game. If I select one of the crisis and refuse it, boom - they declare war. On the other hand if i ignore them, we stay in peace all game. Both ways are rather boring. I can choose to stay in peace and never worry about my defenses, or i can prepare for war slowly building up an army and then when i am ready to start, i can refuse a demand and initiate the war on my schedule. I am playing on Civilization level difficulty so I expect to be attacked, but never am, which is just boring.

Sounds like you need to select more aggressive AI opponents. I'm also on Civilization difficulty and got attacked twice in my most recent game while ignoring demands.

The personalities of the AI personas play a large part in their behavior. The AI can and does declare surprise wars, it also makes use of skirmishes in claimed territory.

Also by accepting all their demands you will soon run out of territory and money, that is really not feasible. :)

I'm thinking the demands should have a 10 turn timer on them or should be required to be answered on the turn they are received before you can go to the next turn. As it stands now it seems like a bug that a crisis can hang over you for the entire game.

I mean, there are crises in real life that have been ongoing for thousands of years (who the rightful owners of the Israel/Palestine region are, the Turkish occupation of Cyprus, the rightful owner of Kashmir, etc.). Not sure why it would be unrealistic that the same can happen in-game.
