I've been waiting a long time for this game to come out, and I'm excited it's finally here.  I am a little concerned however over some of the rumor I've heard and technical choices Amplitude has made with respect to the macOS version.

Not using Metal. Is it true that the game does not use the Metal API for the Mac version? This would be disappointing because it would offer a better experience with respect to speed/optimization. Right now on my 5K iMac I cannot play the game in "Good" mode, the scrolling isn't smooth and too jerky. I had to downgrade to a resolution around 3600 and set graphics to "Simple" -- for a 2020 iMac with a 3.3GHz processor, 16GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4GB. It feels like the game should be performing better?  I get that the Mac version is in beta so hopefully there are improvements with performance. I have played Endless Legend and Space2 and the experience is usually smooth and flawless. Humankind it just seems to be struggling on modern Mac hardware.

No M1 support. Apple's clearly moving away from the Intel chips, and I tested the game on Rosetta2 on my M1 13" MacBookPro, and it doesn't load. I am not surprised, it isn't advertised to support M1. I find it curious that the game wasn't created as a Universal App, given that Apple's plans for M1 have been known for a long while now. I suspect it's limitations with Amplitudes game engine perhaps (I think I heard it relies on OpenGL)?  In any event, not supporting M1 would be a death knell for any Mac players because the "great migration" is underway and will be completed by 2024.

There are a few bugs I've found in the game so far, and I logged them in the bug forum. Hopefully the game experience improves and Amplitude focuses on providing a solid experience for players before rushing off to build new features or subsystems in the game.
