Since the update none of the user created maps I've downloaded work. A message says the map must be re-exported from the map editor.

Is this a known issue, and is there a fix? I tried using the map editor but couldn't figure out how to load the existing maps.

The maps need to updated,  yes. Most of the content creators have already updated them for the new version. Go to mod.io and simply download the new version, they do not get updated automatically. :)
